What organizations do you belong to and truly love? For me it’s BNI Capital Business Alliance. For years though, I was simply a member. Then, Dan Dering suggested I step up as VP of my chapter and Sarit Arbell suggested I become an ambassador and then a director consultant of BNI Central Maryland. Taking these roles gave me the opportunity to give back but they also gave me the opportunity to continue to improve the organization on the chapter and regional levels. Leadership is a privilege, not an obligation. Our region is currently working to fill the executive leadership roles of the chapters. So often someone is asked to step into the position of president or vice president and they respond with “I’m too busy.” Is this something you find yourself saying? If so, I want to encourage you to stop and think about the difference you can make not just for others but for your business as well. If you can help improve an organization that already benefits you, that organization will not only keep benefitting you but will have the potential to help you even more going forward. I am a true believer in the Givers Gain philosophy. I have seen it work. It has worked on the referral level but it has also worked on a larger level. By giving back to BNI Global I ultimately make my business stronger. Am I busy? You bet I am. But the time I dedicate to this organization that helped me build my business is worth it. It has paid off 10 fold. So I challenge you to step up and take a hand in shaping and guiding the organizations you love. I challenge you to give more.
