Considering recent concerns that DEI “quiet quitting” may gain traction in Australia following trends in the U.S., it’s more important than ever to double down on strategies that demonstrate DEI's value to business resilience, innovation, and shareholder trust. Critically, 2 of 5 boards in USA don’t see DE&I as high priority Here are four critical strategies to keep DEI relevant and impactful at the board level, bridging the gap between DEI and core business priorities Australia can maintain momentum by framing DEI as a strategic imperative rather than a compliance measure. Let’s stay committed to driving meaningful, resilient DEI that elevates the entire business. How can your board make DEI a business priority? Let’s discuss! What do you say – Pollyanna Lenkic (She/Her) Nicole Elsley Roman Ružbacký, Koon, Executive Coach? 😎 #DEIMattersToBoards #DEIforShareholderValue #ElevateWithDEI #BoardLevelDEI #SustainableDEIImpact #DEILeadershipEdge #HookYourBoardOnDEI #FromDEItoROI #ESGandDEI #InvestInInclusion

Last week I (Sam) had the pleasure of speaking with Darryn Gray and the Hutt Valley Chamber of Commerce about my design practice Semper Semper™. I thought I’d take a moment to expand on something we spoke about. It’s time for New Zealand to retire the No.8 wire. I said it. It’s time. Sorry. I’ve been living in Aotearoa New Zealand for four years now. I have the benefit of an outsider’s perspective and some things are astonishingly clear. The country’s economy has been struggling since Covid, interest rates are biting hard, productivity is close to the bottom of the OECD, confidence is down and it’s all being intensified by deep public sector cuts. Consequently brain-drain is becoming a big issue. What really confounds me is that there’s no sign of a plan or a roadmap out of this. So here’s my suggestion; New Zealand needs to form a national vision for its future. A picture of where it’s going and how it’s going to get there. A vision of a prosperous nation is a huge multifaceted thing, with many more factors than I understand. So I want to make a suggestion within a sphere that I do. New Zealand is no longer an isolated outpost. It’s time to engage with the world in a greater way. That’s a path to prosperity. The country’s exports are dominated by dairy, meat, foods and primary industries. These are industries to be proud of. But other areas of the economy need to be promoted and encouraged for the country to increase its productivity and prosperity. Digital industries, design, creativity, science, technology, industrial design and other services – these industries are genuine strengths and should be greatly encouraged to grow and expand out into the wider world. NZ should be exporting its creativity, skills and knowledge far and wide. There are many leading the way; Xero, Sharesies, PikPok, Resn, Weta Digital, Rocket Lab, and FTN Motion to name a few. But more need to follow. I’m impressed by the work that Callaghan Innovation and New Zealand Trade and Enterprise do in supporting these organisations. But it all needs to go further and aim higher. And so It’s time to retire the No.8 wire. There needs to a nationwide shift away from a make do / ‘she’ll be right’ attitude to one of quality. These industries mentioned; Digital, design, creativity, science, technology and industrial design etc – they thrive in an environment of quality. In a business culture that embraces and pays for quality, understands its benefits and integrates it deep into every facet of business – companies grow and thrive that can compete and win on the world stage. Encouraging and cultivating a culture of quality boosts New Zealand’s reputation across the board. Until one day, that reputation is so strong that the world comes to you. So for the sake of New Zealand’s future, ‘she’ll be right’ isn’t good enough. It’s time to strive for excellence. https://lnkd.in/ed4Jt8GV

Just can’t get enough of the Awards appreciation!! Here’s a wee story about what Legacy means to us. "The thing you have to remember is, without helping them, without feeling compelled to serve, we're nothing without them. We need our customers to believe in us, because every customer we have today, they make the new customer we have tomorrow." - John Mackay This is something that Founding Director John Mackay said at the last G&M Board Meeting when I was questioned about how much I was spending (time and money), making old customers happy. John wanted to praise me for thinking about the G&M reputation, his reputation. He was proud of me, his daughter, for doing the right thing. There is a line between customer service and making a profit, most big businesses will choose profit first. My most recent interactions with BT for example, reminded me of everything I do not want my business to become. And that's something that's felt across the whole of Gillies and Mackay, my team see themselves in every customer we work for and they feel it when they take the time to get it right for them. We're different for a reason. There's a moral code within a small business like ours that tells us why we started. It's a passion and in that passion there's a special reserve to take pride in what we do and protect our service and product. Our reward? Customer validation. Something fills my soul when I know you're happy and if for whatever reason you are not, I genuinely care to make it better.
A huge round of applause for Gillies and Mackay, the winner of the 2024 'Legacy' award! In this video, Gillies and Mackay Chief Executive Cara Mackay shares why #TheSmallAwards are important to small businesses, and what the recognition means to this incredible family-run business! Asked for his hopes for the NW region for the year ahead, Richard Jeffery, GC Insight's Director of Business, said: “I hope Greater Manchester and the wider North West continue to attract the best talent and businesses. Over the past three years, around 10,000 Londoners have made the move up the M1, and it’s no wonder because we’ve seen significant investment in the region during that time. “I also hope that Greater Manchester remains an innovation hub, supporting start-ups, growth businesses, and scale-ups. “I also want to see us continue to build on our strong connections with other regions in the North of England. Although the government has, to an extent, stepped back from various pan-regional initiatives, collaboration across the North remains strong. Greater Manchester has been a key player in these efforts, and I believe it can continue to lead, share, and learn to the benefit of everyone.” Richard said he also wanted to see the region continue its push towards net zero.
