Nice to see Rachel Bartholomew of Hyivy Health in this article by The Guardian about the disadvantages the women behind femtech are facing including: - a misconception that the market is too niche (it isn't, women are 51% of the population with control of 80% of the healthcare spend) - censorship, not being able to use the medical terms for for women's bodies and conditions (double standard since it is fine to use the words for men's bodies) stymying marketing and education efforts - funding, the UK and US government are now starting to fill in the gaps left by the lack of VC funding, but we need additional sources of funding https://lnkd.in/e3QuQPQb #womenshealthequity #healthinnovation #femtech

🔆 An insightful FemTech article in The Guardian highlights the immense potential of the industry. With femtech targeting 50% of the global population and women's higher healthcare spending and digital health tool usage, it's no surprise experts predict it as the "next big phenomenon." Despite being valued at $28bn and projected to reach $60bn by 2027, femtech receives only 1-2% of health tech funding, and a mere 4% of new drugs for female-specific health issues were approved in the US from 2011 to 2021. Honored to be interviewed by Ellen Flannery of Intelligent HealthTech about how #FemTech innovations can effectively address the unique health challenges and needs faced by women across different stages of life. I was also thrilled to see Somer Baburek, MBA of Hera Biotech interviewed as well. As someone who struggled with #endometriosis, I love to hear about the innovators working on ways to more effectively diagnose and treat this often devastating condition impacting so many women. https://lnkd.in/gP7ht4A5 #womenshealth #healthcare #womenshealthcarematters #healthinnovation

Did you know? 🚨 Despite being a $28 billion market growing fast, femtech companies are facing major obstacles — from funding biases to censorship. 💰❌ Whether it's a tampon designed to prevent infections or fertility kits to support women at home, women-led startups struggle with prejudice and being sidelined in the industry. 🌍 Women are 75% more likely to use health-related tech, yet femtech only gets 1-2% of health tech funding! It’s time we support women innovators making real changes for our health! Femtech is described as a movement, and one that is overflowing with potential opportunities - but this really interesting article highlights that there is a long way to go to come close to levelling the playing field for Women's Health. ✨ There are SO many innovative ideas and solutions in femtech that aim to provide solutions for health issues specific to, or predominately affecting, women. But the article shares that many of these ideas and solutions are not getting the support that they need to be commercially successful or accessible for women. For example: - Investment in femtech stands at just 1-2% of total health technology funding. - 100% of 35 femtech companies that responded to an online survey had experienced issues with censorship of women’s health content online. - 75% of those companies has been refused a bank account. As femtech continues to evolve and more female-focussed innovations are being developed, it will become more and more important for Women's Health Tech businesses, and the innovators behind the revolutionary ideas, to be offered the support that they need to succeed and make a real impact.

Femtech is one of the most rapidly growing healthcare sectors, with it being projected to foster a global market worth $103 billion by 2030. This highlights how technological innovations are improving our ability to support women’s health and finding new methods to help them with health issues that were previously difficult to address. Not only will this of course have a positive impact on women, but majorly improving the global health of women can add $1 trillion annually to the global economy as they can live healthier lives and achieve more career success. #Femtech #Healthcare

🌟 The Rise of Women’s Health aka FemTech 🌟 I've been closely following the rise of the #womenshealth sector and have come to deeply appreciate the urgent need for more solutions in this underrepresented area. I've had the privilege of meeting numerous women who are founding #medtech companies to address critical issues in women’s health. These courageous pioneers are driving transformative change. Through these interactions, I’ve learned that many women’s healthcare needs are often hard to discuss openly and can cause feelings of embarrassment. Yet, I’m also witnessing a surge of #innovative #medtech ideas emerging, from #fertility solutions to #cancer screenings. #FemTech is reshaping my perspective on the #womenhealth sector and its potential for impactful innovation. I found this article insightful and here are my key takeaways: 💡 Untapped Potential: Historically, medical research favored male subjects, leading to significant gender disparities. FemTech bridges this gap, offering targeted solutions for women's health. 💡 Community Power: The strong FemTech community is driving visibility and innovation, addressing long-neglected health issues. 💡 Government Support: Initiatives like the US government's $100 million investment in women’s health research highlight the growing recognition and support for FemTech. I’d like to add one more: Investment Opportunities: If there’s ever an #investment opportunity, I’d like to think #founders with a passion in a segment that’s underrepresented, brave enough to speak up about the issues, identify solutions and lead the charge to solve the problem, just seems like a sure bet for me. I feel the sector is ripe for growth and anyone who’s into #Medtech, should be looking at this space and explore how we can contribute to these awesome women driving this space forward. #FemTech #WomensHealth #MedicalDevices #HealthcareInnovation #InvestmentOpportunities #HealthTech #LifeSciences #Startups #Innovation #HealthcareTransformation

Wrapping up an amazing time at Femtech & Consumer Innovation Summit and Women's Health Innovation Series. It's an honor to be a partner in the vibrant community of #Femtech. Thank you Kisaco Research, speakers, and fellow industry experts for an incredible experience. Key areas explored at the event include: investment, innovation, scale, regulation. Here are some key takeaways, though the true inspirational moments are too many to count in one post, to say the least. 💡With investment criteria tightening, investors increasingly expect more data-backed evidence to prove market fit, and a clear exit horizon and probability. Key areas with promising investment potential include menopausal care, non-hormonal birth control, and STI solutions focused on outcome improvement. 💡Menopausal care is a dynamic pillar of women’s health, with holistic, one-stop-shop, end-to-end positioning expected to gain attraction. Skin care, sexual wellness, nutrition, diagnostics and personalization are key development areas. 💡While sex tech continues to face many systemic hurdles, ability to demonstrate medical benefits of sexual wellness and leverage humor to destigmatize the subject will pay dividends. 💡To drive consumer trust and business scale, businesses may leverage regimen support, community building, science endorsement, channel and portfolio diversification, and cross-adjacency partnerships. The conversations do not stop here. Excited to see what the journey of women’s health holds and continue to be a part of the dialogue. #femtech #menotech #sextech #innovation #womenshealth #healthandwellness #menopausalcare #sexualwellness Irina Barbalova Kelley Nordin Nambiar Jane Merten Shagun Maheshwari Nirosha Karunarathna Thang Vo-Ta Lux Perry
