The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission wants to hear from you if you believe you may be impacted by the planned natural gas pipeline, known as the Southeast Supply Enhancement Project, that will go through Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Alabama. There are two meetings this week where you can provide comments about this project to FERC staff. The first meeting is on Monday, June 24, at Holiday Inn Express and Suites, 351 Vineyards Crossing, Lexington, North Carolina 27295 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM (EDT). The second meeting is on Tuesday, June 25, at Olde Dominion Agricultural Complex, 19783 US-29, Chatham, Virginia 24531 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM (EDT). FERC takes every comment into consideration, and your oral comments will be part of the public record for the proceeding. Comments received during this stage of the proceeding will help staff focus environmental analysis on areas of concern. FERC gives equal consideration to all comments received, whether filed in written form or provided orally at a comment session. "Wyoming has joined the states of North Dakota, Montana and Texas in suing the U.S. Department of Interior and Bureau of Land Management over a new rule that they have said undermines existing state regulatory programs and harms Wyoming oil and natural gas producers. "The suit was filed this week in the U.S. District Court for the District of North Dakota. The rule — commonly known as the 'methane waste prevention rule,' released last month — is an attempt by the department of Interior to re-introduce a similar rule adopted by the Obama Administration in 2016. That rule was previously blocked by a Wyoming federal court. "The new rule requires oil and gas companies to pay royalties on flared gas, driving up costs for producers and resulting in increased costs to consumers, Gov. Mark Gordon said in a news release. " 'This rule is yet another example of the Biden Administration attempting to use rulemaking to undermine state authority and suffocate the oil and gas industry,' Gordon said. 'We will continue to defend Wyoming’s interests in court whenever they are under attack by the federal government.' " Original Complaint in State of North Dakota, et al. v. It will be interesting to see what this yields. If you follow the feed of Laura Capper, which I strongly recommend, you'll know that there has been a lot of change within the Permian's subsurface over the past few years. I am particularly interested in the Railroad Commission of Texas' investigation into enhanced oilfield recovery. Groups like Engineered Salinity - ESal led by Dr. Geoffrey Thyne have demonstrated time after time that careful attention to chemistry can have profound impacts on production yields. The hyperozonation effluent by Infinity Water Solutions is also showing tremendous promise in the #EOR arena; by cleaving large hydrocarbons (asphaltenes and paraffins), thus improving commodity viscosity. Some states update their Oil and Gas regulations to make them more favorable to brine lithium extraction (DLE). One example is Senate Bill 285 in Louisiana, filed by Senator Stewart Cathey, Jr. SB 285 would grant authority to the State Office of Conservation to establish units for brine production. The proposed legislation would also revise the Mineral Code to expressly include brine among the substances to which the Mineral Code applies. While some uncertainties will remain relating to existing mineral leases that predate any new legislation – SB 285 represents a meaningful first step towards making Louisiana a significant destination for direct lithium extraction. - The Energy Law Blog: https://lnkd.in/gFDUGcXk https://lnkd.in/gDX3rUiX California still has fairly archaic Regulations, with brines treated akin to a federal leasable placer deposit. Read Callison (2018), Legal and Regulatory Issues in Mineral Extraction from Geothermal Fluids in the Western U.S.; Geothermal Resources Council Transactions, Vol. 42.

Hey Texans and Louisianans! Did you know that during the Pre-Filing Process at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, FERC environmental staff will “scope” the project? “Scoping” refers to the process that FERC staff uses to gather public input and comments on a project. Public input draws attention to potential issues and whether there is a potential for adverse effects to the human environment from a proposed energy project. Scoping begins with the issuance of a Notice of Scoping. In that notice, FERC staff will open a “scoping” comment period. During this period, the public is asked to submit written comments on the project. Comments can be submitted electronically via FERC Online (eComment and eFiling). The public may also submit comments verbally by attending an in-person “scoping session” that FERC hosts. For the DeLa Express Pipeline Project, FERC will host scoping sessions in the near future! Keep an eye out for dates posted on OPP’s social media channels and in the FERC Docket No. PF24-4-000 in FERC's eLibrary: https://lnkd.in/dy3gWqGh #Texas #Louisiana #DeLaExpress #PF24-4 #Pipeline #NaturalGas #Energy #Environment

𝘾𝙖𝙡𝙞𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙣𝙞𝙖 𝙁𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝘽𝙖𝙣 𝙉𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙨 𝙁𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙡𝙞𝙯𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 California is on the brink of finalizing a ban on hydraulic fracturing (fracking) as the state's oil and gas regulator submits the final regulations to the Office of Administrative Law. This marks the culmination of over a decade of advocacy by public health and environmental groups. The regulations will take effect on October 1, 2024. 𝑲𝒆𝒚 𝑷𝒐𝒊𝒏𝒕𝒔: The ban is a result of persistent advocacy by frontline communities and environmental organizations. The regulations aim to prioritize public health and environmental safety over oil company profits. A new health and safety law also prohibits new oil and gas permits within 3,200 feet of sensitive sites like homes and schools. The California Geologic Energy Management Division (CalGEM) is under scrutiny for lax enforcement of new laws and for rushing through well approvals. Enforcement of these regulations is crucial to protect taxpayers from cleanup costs and ensure a smooth transition to clean energy. #California #FrackingBan #EnvironmentalProtection #PublicHealth #CleanEnergy #SustainableFuture #OilAndGas #Regulation #ClimateAction https://lnkd.in/dJCACyWj
