Imagine a world where young athletes cycle with the same enthusiasm as in the local parks, where the thrill of competition fuels a vibrant community. I started in bicycle racing when I was thirteen and played handball five times a week, too. Teenager energy is excellent, hey. Almost 35 years later, the same scene happens every year, and nearly all races: only a handful of juniors, literally, a few U17 and U19, and that's it. Racing bikes take much work to start and stay, financially and safety-wise. How can we improve that? I know it varies from place to place; how's the cycling scene where you live? . . . . #SportsBusiness #FanEngagement #CyclingTeams #SponsorshipChallenges #SportsMarketing #FutureOfCycling #AthleteBranding #SportsInnovation #BuildingFanbases

Professional cycling teams are often seen as enduring symbols of grit, strategy, and athleticism. They represent sponsors on a global stage as they compete in prestigious races like the Tour de France. However, many of these teams face a constant battle for survival behind the scenes. Despite the sport's growing popularity, it remains financially fragile. What do you think can be done? Can we one day support a professional cycling team with the same enthusiasm for our favourite sports, like football or basketball? What motivates us to choose a team in the first place? Is it based on tradition, location, or national and international success? #cycling #professionalcycling #SportsBusiness #FanEngagement #CyclingTeams #SponsorshipChallenges #SportsMarketing #FutureOfCycling #AthleteBranding #SportsInnovation #BuildingFanbases

When Football Meets Cycling! 🚴⚽️ Cycle ball is a sport similar to association football, but played on bicycles. It is also known as "radball.". Here are some key details about the cycle ball: In cycle ball, two people on each team ride fixed-gear bicycles with no brakes or freewheels. The ball is controlled using the bike and the head, except when scoring goals. Cycle ball was first played in 1883. Cycle ball is popular in Europe and Japan. The highest governing body for cycle ball is the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI). Cycle ball was included in the World Games in 1989. If you're interested in watching cycle ball in action, you can find highlights and games on platforms like YouTube. It's a fascinating sport that combines cycling skills with ball control. #cycleball #sport #technology #letsconnect #football #skills #goal #game

Myths of Sport Performance is launched today! I wrote a chapter in which I tackle "The myth of the zombie" - the idea that elite athletes should perform on autopilot without much thought or attention. Other topics include myths regarding psychological safety, e-sports, periodization, pregnancy, leadership and more. Thanks to editors Dr Amy Whitehead (who was also my PhD opponent) and Jenny Coe for tackling performance from a creative perspective and putting together this book! #Sports #Performance #Psychology #Myths

#Sprintracing, often referred to simply as "sprints," involves high-speed, short-distance races in various sports. Here are some common types of sprint racing events across different sports: Athletics 100 meters: The shortest sprint race, typically lasting around 10 seconds for elite athletes. 200 meters: Requires a balance of speed and endurance, often run on a curve. 400 meters: One full lap around the standard outdoor track, combining speed with greater endurance than shorter sprints. Cycling #TrackCyclingSprints: Short-distance races held on a velodrome, including individual sprints, team sprints, and keirin events. #RoadCyclingSprints: Often occur at the end of stages in multi-stage races like the Tour de France, where riders sprint to the finish line. #Motorsports Formula 1 #SprintRaces: Introduced to provide additional excitement and points, these races are shorter than the main Grand Prix. These events are characterized by their high intensity and require athletes to exhibit explosive power, speed, and often a strategic approach to pacing and positioning.
