More details to come ~ check back later 😎 Monaco <> RM Sotheby's Sotheby's Motorsport 1968 Iso Grifo GL Series I by Bertone €260,000 - €340,000 EUR   | Monaco, Monaco Chassis No. GL720140 The Iso Grifo was created by a powerhouse of Italian engineering talent, including former Ferrari chief engineer and “father of the GTO” Giotto Bizzarrini; designer Giorgetto Giugiaro; and revered coachbuilders Bertone. A muscular gran turismo, its Bertone-built coachwork surrounded an advanced chassis with a de Dion rear axle and inboard brakes, a configuration that reduced the unsprung weight compared to a live rear axle. Power was provided by a Chevrolet 327-cubic-inch V-8 of the same specification used in contemporary Corvettes, endowing the Grifo with ample performance and fine reliability. The model remained in production into the early 1970s and saw a total run of 413 examples in all configurations. Reportedly capable of autostrada speeds upwards of 140 mph, the Iso Grifo at one time was one of the world’s fastest production cars. This car was made of aluminum. Prior to that DeTomaso and his wife, the former Isabelle Haskell, had made only race cars, and in effect, with OSCA’s development testers, were working for OSCA. In 1959, they left OSCA and began to make cars under their own badge, either for F2 or Formula Juniors, or even, on occasion, F1. De Tomaso originally planned to build the Vallelunga, (named after a racetrack in Italy at which the roadster had some success), with aluminum coachwork, as a roadster with a removable hardtop but instead he put a coupe into production. A rare and interesting, if not rather obscure car produced from 1964 through 1967. Early Fissore bodies cars were aluminum over a backbone chassis. Much chassis and dynamics design and development came from Formula single seaters. It is estimated that 40-50 cars were produced. The Vallelunga body was a graceful design in keeping with its era, penned by the legendary Giorgetto Giugiaro. Visually, the Vallelunga resemble some other Italian performance icons like the Ferrari 250LM and Dino 206 as well as the Alfa-Romeo TZ and Giulietta SZ. FUN FACT: In some cars, it is important confirm chassis numbers with known historic files. "1921 Leyat Hélica In Action | Concours Of Elegance 2020, London" Professor Gordon Murray with his legendary and breakthrough F1 Brabham BT46 Fan car of 1978 and the newer variants of the Fan car T.50 & T.50s and that idea might be a bit more older than we all thought. Jay Leno has at least 3 of these in his collection and loves nothing more than flying around the place to get a pint of milk and newspaper. This is such a rare car that very little video footage of it is on YouTube so show 'Supe Luxe Cars' YouTube channel some support by watching this 55 second video of the 1921 Leyat Hélica driving around then back firing. A novel idea that as I see it has many benefits, one being no need for a big heavy gearbox and drive train saving weight and cost to produce. Smaller brakes even if this car has any? The pull of the propeller giving a 100mph top speed in 1921 without the greatest technology available to achieve those speeds in that time period is a true testament to how this idea is not as bonkers as it first appears. The experience of driving a car like this is also something so unique and involving that driving such a car that the driver can really say before pulling away: "Chocks Away" whilst they wear a long silk scarf and leather skull cap helmet.  https://lnkd.in/eU4ncmuV
