Why ABET Accreditation Matters: A Mechatronics Engineer's Perspective As a recent Mechatronics Engineering graduate with a focus on robotics and automation, I believe that ABET accreditation is an essential metric for professionals in our field. My degree from an ABET-accredited program has not only equipped me with a solid foundation in mechanics, electronics, and software engineering, but also instilled in me a commitment to excellence, innovation, and ethical practice. What is ABET Accreditation? The Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) is a non-profit organization that evaluates and accredits engineering, computer science, and technology programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels. ABET accreditation signifies that a program meets rigorous standards in curriculum, faculty expertise, facilities, and student outcomes. Why is it Important? For me, ABET accreditation holds significance in several key areas: Guaranteed Quality: Choosing an ABET-accredited program ensures you receive a high-quality education that aligns with industry standards and best practices. Enhanced Employability: Many employers, especially those involved in critical infrastructure or safety-sensitive fields, actively seek graduates from ABET-accredited programs. This accreditation serves as a trusted mark of quality. Lifelong Learning: ABET accreditation promotes continuous improvement within programs, ensuring they remain relevant and up-to-date with technologies and industry needs. My Personal Experience: During my studies at an ABET-accredited program, I gained invaluable hands-on experience through projects like designing and developing a SCARA robotic arm, in addition to the Hexapod robot project as well. These projects challenged me to integrate my knowledge of mechanics, electronics, and software engineering while collaborating and leading teams. The curriculum and emphasis on ethical considerations instilled in me a strong foundation for my future career. What do you think, is ABET an industry necessity, or an over-glorified accreditation? I would love to hear opinions #ai #artificialintelligence #mechatronics #robotics #automation #engineering #manufacturing #healthcare #prostheticlimbs #selfdrivingcars #mechatronicsengineering #futureofwork #smartmachines #innovation #disruptivespace #openai #github #mechatronicsahmed

Join the Berkshire Innovation Center and Massachusetts Institute of Technology for a virtual overview of the MIT LEAP Group’s Technologist Advanced Manufacturing Program (TechAMP) - https://lnkd.in/etxXBArb Date: Thursday, October 31, 2024 Time: 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM TechAMP is a DoD IBAS-funded project to develop a 12-month certificate program to bridge the gap between technicians and engineers by giving technicians a ladder to become shop-floor leaders. The target audience for this 12-month program is current technicians or operators with 3+ years of experience. Curriculum consists of online lectures by MIT faculty and staff, interactive virtual simulations, and hands-on labs that community college faculty will run at their colleges. Once developed, the content will be available for free and can be used modularly. However, only individuals who complete the entire program will be certified as technologists. Credits earned during the certificate will count toward an engineering technology degree at University of Massachusetts Lowell. This info session is FREE but registration is required - https://lnkd.in/etCY-qTA #ProfessionalDevelopment #AdvancedManufacturing #Robotics #Mechatronics #AdditiveManufacturing #DigitalManufacturing #Machining

🚫Basing your future on a fad is a terrible mistake. I’ll explain. ♦️A lot of the young people I talk to like to follow fads or the popular thing at the moment. Some spend months, maybe years upskilling and building competence in a particular area only to give it up for something else that suddenly has become popular. One of my mentees, the first time we spoke, wanted to know more about electronic and robotic systems. There’s a lot of noise about robotics these days. But this was somebody who was very good at pure mechanical system design. I asked why he wanted to get into electronics, and he mentioned having a “strong interest”. When I looked at the portfolio of work he had piled up as a mechanical design engineer, I was worried. I told him, “You have such great skill in mechanical design. Instead of leaving that entirely to get into a subject you’ll have to learn from scratch, why not continue looking for ways to improve your specialty.” I did however tell him he could read into electronics since it interested him. There’s no harm in gathering useful knowledge. But please don’t kill your strengths based on a fad skill that’s propagated around the world and on the internet. ♦️What you know now is still so very valuable. Improve on it and grow with it. #growthmindset #qotd #guidedbysamli #engineersmindset #engineercareercoach

Young talents with the right technological skills … 🚀 … and yes, yes – it's easy to find them 😵 Do you know - at the MANN+HUMMEL Prototyping Center we are continuously dealing with the expectation to have solutions for new technologies, processes and products available which are not yet existing ⁉ This circumstance of course requires not only a positive and motivated mindset, it requires the right technological skills as well 🦸♂️ Keywords such as industry 4.0, #digitalization, agility and flexibility are of particular importance when we are talking about a modern inhouse prototyping shopfloor where we would like to realize latest #innovation 🛩 Having this in mind for us it’s important to convince young and talented people to join us. In addition we try to motivate them to be open for further important and necessary #futureskills 🧬 That’s why we prefer selecting young talents who just finished a vocational training inhouse and transfer our specific knowledge of innovative and modern technologies to them 😉 To strengthen this path the decision was taken, that vocational training especially for mechatronics but also for a basic mechanical training for students will be integrated into the prototyping center 🔗 With this decision a new era is marked and with the start of our recent young talents some days ago we were able officially to start with the new layout of the #prototyping center with an integrated vocational training setup 💪 We are looking very much forward to shape this new era accordingly to our needs and are warmly welcoming our new talents 🤝 What about you? How do you try to deal with the fact that you potentially won’t find young talents with the right skills to deal with future technologies? #education #training #filtrationambassador
