Whether nail penetration, overheating, overcharging or the deliberate creation of short circuits - in its modern autoclave, FEV is able to carry out any standard measuring procedure for the objective assessment of diverse properties. Batteries with a total length of up to 1,050 mm and a capacity of up to 400 Ah can be extensively tested under pressure-tight conditions to assess mechanical, electrical and thermal stress on the cell. Based on the results, our experts can evaluate the #safety, #reliability and #durability of #batterycells in critical applications such as #electricvehicles. Lately, a customer battery cell was tested in the autoclave under extreme thermal loads – and ended in a thermal runaway. By this, our experts were able to gain important insights for the further development process of #safe and #powerful battery cells.
