Princeton University is taking the heat pump concept and energy efficiency to a new level with seasonal geothermal energy storage. When I arrived on campus in the fall of 1980, there was a similar concept with a large mound of snow/ice that would be made or collected in the cold months and used to cool buildings in the warm months. The concept explained here is a well evolved successor to that early project.
Remember the heat wave in June? The University is now putting all the heat stored from those hot summer days to use to heat buildings across campus via Princeton’s geo-exchange system and heat pump technology. Ted Borer, PE and Forrest Meggers explain.

We accepted a paper reviewing the sealing performance of microbially induced carbonate precipitation and its engineering application. The importance of sealing micro-fractures in an environmentally friendly and efficient manner is emphasized, and the potential of the MICP method in controlling pore and fracture seepage is highlighted. The fundamental mechanisms, key influencing factors, numerical models, and applications of the MICP in the fields of geological CO2 storage and oil resources development are comprehensively summarized. More can be found at https://lnkd.in/gpqgh7Q4 Thanks to the research group from Zhejiang University: Zhichao Song, Chuangzhou Wu, Zuoyong Li, Danyi Shen
