September is Ovarian Cancer and PCOS Awareness Month—a critical time to shed light on two significant women's health issues. Ovarian cancer, often called a silent killer, affects approximately 22,000 women in the U.S. annually. Due to its subtle symptoms, early detection is challenging, making education and awareness essential for improving survival rates. Similarly, Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) affects up to 10% of women worldwide, leading to symptoms such as irregular periods, weight gain, and infertility. Both conditions can have a profound impact on a woman’s quality of life. One aspect of managing Ovarian Cancer and PCOS that is often overlooked is pelvic floor therapy. Pelvic floor therapy can alleviate pain, improve bladder control, and enhance overall pelvic health by addressing muscle imbalances and strengthening the pelvic floor. Despite its benefits, awareness and utilization of pelvic physical therapy remain low. As healthcare professionals and advocates, it’s our responsibility to raise awareness and educate both patients and fellow providers about these options. By doing so, we can help ensure that more women receive comprehensive care and support.
