Insect.Systems starts process-engineering and plant-design for the new ALGENEX vaccines facility in Spain. Algenex is a leading biotechnology-pharmaceutical company, specialized in the production of recombinant proteins in insects, using its innovative CrisBio® technology. The company's platform uses these proprietary technologies based on baculovirus vector expression systems (BVES) in insect cells. Using insect pupae as living bioreactors, this provides a faster, more (quickly) scalable, and more cost-effective protein production, as compared to traditional methods. The goal of eX Virentia (eXVi) is to use of existing unmodified vegetation as a sensor to identify human activity by utilizing natural plant responses to man-made chemical exposures. The eXVi program will bring together plant biologists with remote sensing and modeling experts to develop and execute a fundamental research program. This research will uncover the internal physical response of plant species to chemical exposure. WHO just published their Laboratory biosecurity guidance (https://lnkd.in/eZJsycS5). The focus of this important document is on biosecurity risk assessment, the strengthening of the review function of the institutional biosafety committees and the proposal of a two-tier system of national oversight. Also high-consequence research and gain-of-function experiments (dual-use research) is addressed. The guidance document includes a decision matrix with a series of questions that guide the categorization of different types of high-consequence research and materials which can be used by researchers, national authorities and other relevant persons/bodies.
