Are you approaching marketing like a buffet? Trying to pile on every tactic that promises success, whether it be increased sales, more leads or a complete transformation of your business? As a marketer and entrepreneur, I get it. But here's the truth I wish I discovered early in my career. Even if you have resources and a team of people, the more goals you chase, the less you accomplish. This point is clearly illustrated in the book The 4 Disciples of Execution by Chris McChesney, Sean Covey and Jim Huling. When teams focused on 2-3 goals, they had a high likelihood of achieving all those goals. When the number increased to 4-10, teams typically achieved only 1 - 2 goals. Increased to 11-20? Most teams achieved none of the goals. So, let me ask. What would happen if, in your business, you focused on taking consistent action around the 1 - 2 marketing efforts that would make all the difference? This week, list out the marketing efforts you want to do (or are doing) for your business. And ask yourself which ones you would prioritize if you had to choose.
