Fact, opinion, and perspective--essential distinctions for an informed electorate in a functioning democracy. Finland has got it! There is a saying in Finnish, “You have the right to your own opinions but you do not have the right to your own facts.” I was pleasantly blown away by this Finnish understanding of the importance to distinguish fact, opinion, and perspective on issues as central to a functioning democracy in this video: https://lnkd.in/g9xjCNNe I was talking to a good friend with whom I engage in animated debates on perspective about a controversial theory this week. His challenges often give me new data I did not know and even more important, they require that I think more deeply, and objectively, into what I think and distinguish perspective from fact. I am reluctant to even discuss these specifically here since I fear knee-jerk judgment. I suspect I am not alone.
