The name of your business or brand can go a long way towards helping you achieve success. For instance, my wife, Barbara, and I were driving down Kneeland Street in Boston recently when Boston Kitchen Pizza caught our eyes. Sure, we both love #pizza, so that's one reason we were drawn to their sign. But the name of the restaurant on the sign sounded like they might be the official pizza of the city or something. I also noticed that they said they served Boston's best pizza as well. So why would we go anywhere else for our pizza? They're the best, right? You know and I know that a lot of other restaurants in #Boston probably make the same claim. That's #marketing. That's #advertising. That's business. That's important to note how far the name alone of your business or brand can go in getting the undivided attention of your customers and prospects. #MarketingLife

In college, I bartended at a place known for its crab legs, oysters, and shrimp. To boost business on slow Wednesday nights, we offered "all-you-can-eat crab legs" to attract customers and sell more drinks. The promo worked somewhat: Wednesdays became busy with new customers. However, it only took a few weeks to recognize these customers weren't visiting other nights. And it was easy to figure crab leg customers avoided ordering extra drinks to leave room for more crab legs. But then again, I was the one speaking to customers and selling drinks. Maybe if the Red Lobster “executives" who were making business decisions had sat in restaurants to observe customers while testing this campaign idea, they would have learned valuable lessons from the front line. #brand #marketing
