Following its announcement to open a global dialogue on the transfer system to adapt article 17 of the Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players (RSTP), FIFA has taken concrete steps to initiate an extensive consultation process with a view to gathering views from key stakeholders around the world. As an initial measure, FIFA has already invited key stakeholders, including representatives from the European Club Association, FIFPRO and the World Leagues Association, to analyse the conclusions to be drawn from the decision of the Court of Justice of the European Union on the Diarra case. Additionally, FIFA has established a platform that will enable all interested parties (groups or individuals) to submit feedback by 15 November 2024 as part of the consultation process. FIFA Chief Legal and Compliance Officer Emilio Garcia Silvero said: “We look forward to engaging with the wider football community to gather their constructive views on article 17 of the RSTP in a spirit of collaboration.” More details: https://lnkd.in/exWHQJv7

FIFA shouldn’t be forcing me a Registrar at a community (non professional) football club to obtain the type of information that your regulations require. Just because a youth footballers mum and dad moved across the world with their job. Neither cricket nor any other sport goes to these demands for information. We are the bottom rung of the football hierarchy so please change the definition to simply allow us to register these players with the minimum of fuss.

The initiative to review and adapt article 17 of the RSTP demonstrates FIFA’s commitment to evolving the transfer system in alignment with current legal and economic challenges. Opening a global dialogue and including key stakeholders like the ECA, FIFPRO, and the World Leagues Association highlights the importance of collaboration in shaping a more balanced and fair environment for players and clubs alike.

Step in the right direction. Maybe we all should learn not to put the cart before the horse going forward.
