We are all working fast and with agility. We have been solutioning quickly and collaborating widely and thinking broadly. We jump on global calls at 6am and work on decks until midnight and fly mile after mile because we want to show up for our teams, for the work, and for ourselves. We are all in when it comes to our careers . But part of being all in means taking time for reflections, allowing ourselves time to process, time to think and strategize, giving ourselves the space to recharge. Today, I suggest that we each take the time to think about the biggest piece of work we focused on this week. Reflect. What went well? What did we learn? How did we feel about the work? Which parts gave us energy, which parts zapped our spirits? What opportunities are still out there? What needs to be left behind? 🌍 Happy International Men’s Day! 👷♂️✨ Today, I celebrate men from all walks of life for their contributions to society, their resilience, and their commitment to making the world a better place. As a Civil Engineering Professional, I feel especially proud to stand among the men who help shape the physical foundations of our world, creating structures that connect, protect, and inspire communities. This year’s theme, “Positive Male Role Models,” reminds us of the importance of highlighting and celebrating men who inspire us to be better those who lead by example, demonstrate integrity, and positively impact their families, workplaces, and communities. As Civil Engineers, our role extends beyond constructing buildings, bridges, and roads; we are also responsible for building relationships, fostering teamwork, and promoting diversity in our industry. By serving as role models, we can influence the next generation of engineers and leaders to approach their work with dedication, compassion, and excellence. On this special day, I want to reflect on the values that define positive male role models: • Leadership: Inspiring others through vision, action, and integrity. • Collaboration: Building bridges not just of steel and concrete, but of trust and mutual respect. • Resilience: Facing challenges head-on and striving for excellence in every endeavor. To my fellow men, especially those in the engineering and construction industries, let’s continue to: • Support one another through mentorship and encouragement. • Challenge stereotypes and create opportunities for everyone. • Strive for balance in both our professional and personal lives. International Men’s Day isn’t just about celebrating achievements, it’s about promoting mental health, strong relationships, and the positive influence we can have on those around us. Let’s honor the men who inspire us every day and commit to being role models for a brighter future. Here’s to all the fathers, brothers, sons, colleagues, and friends who contribute to a stronger and more inclusive world. Together, we build not only the structures that stand the test of time but also the values that define humanity. Celebrating the completion of my second year in Ørsted ! Here are some interesting experiences I had in my second year: 1. Parental Leave of 12 weeks for the birth of my second child. A global policy which meant a Malaysian baby and family is just as important as any around the world to the organisation. 2. Seeing the company adapt to a tough industry situation, which meant saying goodbye to some awesome colleagues whose roles had become redundant globally. 3. My first trip to South Korea to a submarine cable manufacturer's plant. 4. My first trip to China to another submarine cable manufacturer's plant. 5. My first time working on a project for Poland. 6. My first time participating in employee elections resulting in me being appointed as an Alternate Employee-Elected Member of the Board of Directors Orsted A/S 2024-2025. There's no official duty since I'm only an alternate though. My reflections at this time based on the fact that the renewable energy industry will definitely grow towards 2050 1. As an employee, there's a need to relentlessly develop skills and knowledge to be a valuable asset in growing this industry towards 2050 2. There will be ups and downs in the industry towards 2050 due to various external circumstances which we must have robust plans to withstand, and adapt rapidly as required to keep moving forward. 3. To provide opportunity for anyone without prior RE industry experience to get involved, we need to ensure there exists free access to certification in RE industry basics. That will remove any barrier to entry for new and experienced talents. 4. We need great engineers to design and deliver better assets, so engineering careers need to be encouraged by ensuring that the industry's scale of fees encourage engineers to aspire to become world class specialists and consultants. Paying engineers well results in longer term cost savings and improvement in quality. 5. The RE targets for 2050 will only materialise if there is a supply chain that can deliver, regulations and policies that support it, and lastly grid systems that can enable it. So this means the entire industry needs to move together towards this target and we need to collaborate to make it happen. With that, I'd say that I'm grateful for the eventful year for me and I'm positively curious what the next year holds for me and the industry.

Attending the AFCEA fair with my colleagues Sassan Parvin, Peter Berndsen, Christophe Zwaenepoel and many more SThree colleagues was an incredible experience, filled with inspiring conversations and innovative ideas. A heartfelt thank you to all companies, partners, exhibitors, and visitors for making the event special and successful. Special thanks to the AFCEA for the warm invitation and the opportunity and honor speaking in a very very special location (old German parliament -Bundestag-) about "Managing Megatrends – Staying Connected Despite the Skills Shortage," and addressing the critical issues STEM labour shortage. Despite growing qualifications, we face a significant shortfall in STEM graduates, with a projected loss of 2 million skilled workers by 2035. To tackle this, the government needs to implement a multi-faceted approach that addresses both immediate and long-term challenges. This includes creating financial incentives for career returners and older workers to stay in the workforce longer. Reducing bureaucracy is crucial, as it remains one of the biggest blockers for highly skilled talent entering the German labor market. Companies can also influence their future by focusing not only on international recruitment but also on establishing support structures to help people work globally and/or successfully immigrate to Germany. Opportunities for career changers and flexible working models are pivotal in today’s heated labor market. Despite these and many other initiatives, Germany needs to take the lead in the digitalization of processes and business models, making our existing workers more productive. Different studies show, that Germany is only in the midfield regarding the digitalization, even so it is crucial and will determine whether companies remain competitive in the coming years.
