Another busy day ahead
Mitchell Clements a piece of cake. You can make a company pursue you and asking to hire a design system designer and build a system with just one letter or message. Just calculate how much $$$ will the design system save a month for the company. Take design hours, developers hours, PM hours, QA hours, etc. spent on the tasks and meetings that won’t be needed if DS would exist. Take an average salaries for the positions (use open-source data if you don’t know numbers I your company) and multiply. Then calculate how many hours of these people are needed to build the design system. Now you know what the ROI is. The truth is there’s a chance you’ll see the calculation result like 3-5 years ROI, which isn’t acceptable for every company except a large one. But it the ROI is like 6 months and the company don’t want it, then a big question to the company’s future and strategy.
Having 8+ hours a day to only focus on design systems is a gift. Here's the reality for most designers. 👇
No recovery. It's the infinite loop of iteration you signed up for. 🤣
Sounds like my life, except I have a block of “building and adapting design systems” instead of “talk about design systems” in the middle 🧩
I actually created a design system where my calendar events adhere to the golden ratio, ensuring each daily schedule represents a Fibonacci sequ—make it stop.
That's too much!
2am-8:30am Dream about design systems
Next day all day meeting about Frontend facelift and migration of design system from legacy to Storybook 😅
