Today is Equal Pay Day. It marks the day in the year when, based on the gender pay gap, women in the UK stop being paid compared to men. The Fawcett Society has confirmed that this year it is two days earlier than last year. Despite gradual progress over the last few years, the gender pay gap has widened for the first time since 2013. Fawcett uses the mean, full-time, hourly gender pay gap for the UK to calculate the gender pay gap for Equal Pay Day. This year it is 11.3%, up from 10.7% last year. In 2024, how can the gender pay gap be increasing? Every business has a responsibility to ensure that workers of all genders receive equal pay for work of equal value and to eliminate pay discrimination. At Turning Point, we are passionate about working with organisations to ensure fairness and transparency are at the heart of their remuneration approach. 🌟 Today is Equal Pay Day in the UK 🌟 This marks the day when, due to the gender pay gap, women effectively stop earning compared to men and work for free for the rest of the year. The UK’s mean gender pay gap is now 11.3%, up from 10.4% last year—reversing a decade-long trend of narrowing the gap. This widening disparity means that on average, every month working women take home £631 less than men. This highlights ongoing challenges, including unequal pay, caregiving responsibilities, and fewer opportunities for women in higher-paying roles. Equal pay is not just a women's issue; it’s an economic and social imperative. Let’s push for policies that close the gap—like salary transparency, better parental leave, and support for caregivers. Women deserve equal pay for equal work. 💼💪 Join the conversation and get involved at https://lnkd.in/eEk6rUCJ . #EqualPayDay #GenderPayGap #JointheMovement

The gender pay gap is widening! Which is why it is important to keep striving for equality. Together we can make a difference and the organisations we are working with at Karren Brady's Women in Business & Tech Expo are making a difference by looking at what women need to be supported in the workplace to thrive and progress, starting with inclusive recruitment and female friendly policies and networks. Creating networks where women can meet and support each other are really important and the partners we are working with such as SheCanCode are doing a fantastic job at this, helping women to stay in their chosen career and level up the gap: https://lnkd.in/epRDyqk7 Well done everyone. 🙌 Together we can make a difference and every little step helps to close the gap. #genderpaygap #inclusiverecruitment #closethegap #womeninleadership #diversity

Today is Equal Pay Day in the UK💰 Equal Pay Day is a national campaign led by the Fawcett Society, it marks the day in the year when, based on the gender pay gap, women overall in the UK stop being paid compared to men. The gender pay gap is the difference between the average pay of men and women within a particular group or population. Fawcett uses the mean, full-time, hourly gender pay gap for the UK to calculate the gender pay gap for Equal Pay Day which is 11.3%, up from 10.4% last year. To see that we are actually going back in development, rather than closing the gap is disheartening and alarming. At Pioneering People, we are proud to enforce minimum hourly rates of £13 nationwide and £14 within London. Our policies stand against gender discrimination and never allow employers to pay workers of different genders, different amounts for the same role. Join us in making some noise and spreading awareness about this day. #GenderPayGap #PayGap #Equality

(Un)happy Equal Pay Day UK! It’s time to down tools ladies (of only it were that easy). Equal Pay Day is the day of the year when women stop earning relative to men due to the gender pay gap. Sadly, frustratingly, unacceptably, the date this year is two days earlier than last year when it fell on 22nd November. This means that, despite years of slow progress to close the UK's mean Gender Pay Gap, it has definitively widened for the first time since 2013. Information is taken from The Fawcett Society who have made this super short and helpful infographic. Gender pay gap for full time employees is 11.3% (can I adjust my tax bill accordingly?????). https://lnkd.in/eAjuUwmA There are many factors that contribute to the pay gap including pay discrimination, women’s unequal share of caring responsibilities, and a failure to promote women in the workplace. I believe we need both a bottom up and a top down approach in organisations paired with policy change. Bottom up - empowering women to believe their own worth and ask for the recognition they deserve which just so happens to be where my coaching programmes are focused (tap me up for more info and take things into your own hands)… We can take concerted action to shift things ‘at the top’ but we also need to take charge of our own lives through education, peer to peer support, male allyship (yay - more on that later with my good friend Tarquin Bennett-Coles 😉) and an unshakeable belief that we deserve better.
