Reflecting on the Latvia Fintech Forum 2024, I’m grateful for the range of perspectives and topics that emerged. It was particularly interesting to hear from Michal Gromek. His take on the regulatory challenges in this space highlighted the need for expertise that bridges both fintech and compliance. As Michal pointed out, “We have many specialists in sanctions policies and many in cryptocurrencies, but very few who bridge both fields.” This is something we’ll need to address as the industry evolves. The opening panel from the Bank of Latvia introduced the “Banking Light” license concept, which could make a significant impact by enabling to enter the financial market more smoothly while maintaining essential regulatory safeguards. Excited to know more details about the idea in the nearest future. The forum also covered white-label banking, tokenization, and blockchain, with the EBA’s growing focus on these areas. It’s clear that regulatory frameworks are evolving to support secure and transparent growth in fintech.
