#DYK women make up 33% of AVLFCC's workforce? As an engineering company that develops custom fuel cell stack solutions for other engineering organizations, this representation is something we're really proud of. Today is International Women in Engineering Day (#INWED), which exists to promote the amazing work of women engineers around the world. Why? Because women engineers are still hugely under-represented. That includes here in Canada, where Engineers Canada estimates women represent only about 15% of all licensed engineers. We want to draw attention to this statistic, for sure. But for us, women in engineering goes beyond the P.Eng. designation. Our women-in-engineering colleagues, photographed below, are not all engineers. But every one of them makes the engineering we do here at #AVLFCC possible. So please take a moment today—every day would be better—to talk to young women and girls about the amazing women in engineering you know. Showcase their projects. Tell stories about what women engineers have built. Describe women in leadership roles in engineering companies. Facilitate introductions and conversations. Because we all benefit when more young women and girls decide to work in engineering, too! #INWED2024 #InternationalWomenInEngineeringDay #WomenInSTEM #enhancedbyengineering #engineering #fuelcells #hydrogen

THE PROBLEM: Women make up less than 17% of the engineering workforce and 40% of women who earn engineering degrees either quit or never enter the field to begin with. Due to the male-dominated culture of engineering, girls struggle to feel a sense of belonging. How can we prepare girls with the mental and emotional resilience to confidently face the challenges they may experience as they mark their own path through a male-dominated field without losing their voice and unique identity? OUR SOLUTION: 🌟✨ Introducing E2E: Engineer to Empower ✨🌟 engineer2empower.com We’re on a mission to help girls become empowered, confident, and assertive engineers who impact their communities through a mechanical design project. 🌟 Founded by Gal Z. and William Zouzas, E2E will 🌟EMPOWER🌟 girls to impact the world around them while immersing them in a supportive, collaborative, and fun environment where they can grow comfortable with failure, find their voice, and express themselves unapologetically. In the process, girls will 🔧ENGINEER🔧 a solution to a problem by navigating every part of the design cycle from End-to-End (E2E), including problem-finding, ideation, hands-on prototyping, and building a final product that feels meaningful to them. Join us on this incredible journey to help girls find their voice, stand up for themselves and others, dream big, create boldly, and engineer a brighter future for us all. 💫 HOW YOU CAN HELP: 1) For more information on how to join us, visit the “CONTACT” page of our website to volunteer, collaborate, or join our team at E2E! 2)🧑🏭 Tell us your story! Are you an engineer or an engineering student? If so, we would love to hear your story and let it be a guiding light for our program! Please consider filling out our survey on our website at the bottom of the “CONTACT” page! 3) 🤝 Check out our website and visit the “DONATE” page to support E2E! Was such an honor to speak! Here’s the link to the related article below: https://lnkd.in/enHaUTmf
I was happy to join our big annual STEM event -- “Introduce a Girl to Engineering” -- where more than 130 female students from 30 local schools came to Picatinny on Feb. 22 to learn all about engineering. The girls got a taste of the broad diversity of engineering topics by interacting with engineers from more than 20 focus area. The students also heard remarks from Sara Schilling, a current Armaments Center engineer and my daughter Krista Grassano who both went to IGTE in 2013!

The State of Construction Apprenticeship Report 2024 spotlights a glaring concern: a 5% drop in new construction apprenticeships. With only 24,530 newcomers in 2022-23, reaching our communal goal to close the skills gap seems a formidable challenge! Why the decline? A mix of high entry standards and enticing alternative career paths play their part. This is about more than numbers - it's the future of UK infrastructure at risk. Yet, there's a silver lining. Women and minorities are joining the ranks like never before, hinting at a shift in demographics. As a staunch supporter of women in construction, I see this as a momentous opportunity. It's time to reshape our strategy, from the classroom to the construction site. Apprenticeships are a beacon for diversity and innovation. So, let's discuss: How can we make engineering apprenticeships more appealing to the next generation? Could lowering entry barriers be the key to unlocking potential? Your thoughts are invaluable. Today we’re celebrating International Women’s Day and also reflecting on the end of National Careers Week. These two significant events in our calendar go hand in hand for Curtins - women are still underrepresented in our industry, and we are committed to inspiring the next generation to think about a career in engineering. The theme of International Women’s Day ‘Inspire Inclusion’ calls for action to break down barriers, challenge stereotypes and create environments where all women are valued and respected. Through our STEM work, we are ensuring we inspire inclusion by working closely with schools and colleges across the UK and Ireland to educate and encourage young people to explore the world of engineering – often thinking of innovative ways in which we can do this. Last year, our Leeds office opened the doors to Our Place – a unique photography exhibition curated in celebration of the arts, engineering, Leeds 2023 Year of Culture and STEM careers. The exhibition aimed to platform engineering and construction in an accessible and entertaining way, whilst partnering with local suppliers, artists and schools to bring the exhibition together. We welcomed year 8 and 9 students from a local high school to enjoy interactive STEM activities that explored civil and structural engineering, transport planning and environmental engineering, whilst also experiencing the cultural richness of an art exhibition. After the session, 93% of students said they were more likely to consider a career in construction and engineering, which just shows the impact our STEM activities have on the younger generation and the influence we hold to help create a more inclusive engineering industry in the future. We continue to prioritise providing the greatest levels of personal and professional support to women in our business, whilst reaching out to provide opportunities and remove barriers in our communities. Together we will break down barriers and build a better future for our people and the communities we serve. #WeAreCurtins #BuildingABetterFuture #ESG #SocialResponsibility #IWD #NationalCareersWeek

🎆Happy belated International Women in Engineering Day!🎆 Yesterday, June 23rd, 2024, marked this year's International Women in Engineering Day. Each year we celebrate women engineers and what they contribute to the engineering field, including our very own Jillian Gruss, who is an Applications Engineering Manager at CV Technology. If you're new to our LinkedIn page — Welcome! Please check out this video we made a few years back about how Jillian discovered her path to a career in engineering through her love of math, physics, and wanting to have purpose with a career in safety. We’re so proud of her work! Do you know a woman engineer? Perhaps you’ve worked with fellow female engineers in school or in the workplace? Take a moment to acknowledge their accomplishments and contributions to our world – it’s a great time to show appreciation since studies have shown that engineering still remains a predominantly male occupation. Continuing to encourage young girls and anyone interested in engineering to pursue their passion will ensure a diverse and ample workforce in engineering. More professional engineers are needed to fill the 7% growth predicted in the architectural and engineering field when compared to the average for all occupations in the United States from 2022 to 2023, per the US Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). More details on engineering occupation types, showing number of jobs, median income, and other statistics from the BLS are available here: https://lnkd.in/g_HUazCc 📈 #INWED24 #WomenInEngineeringDay #WomenEngineers #Engineering #Math #WomenInSTEM #Celebrate #Safety #WorkplaceDiversity
