Did you catch what we've been working on at Unyoked? In a first-of-its-kind, year in the making research piece - conducted alongside the award-winning global brand consultancy, Interbrand - we sent strategists, designers and writers out into nature to measure and answer one simple question: "can time in nature alone positively impact originality and creative output?" We used an ethnographic research approach, designed to capture participants’ thoughts, feelings, and emotions about their creative process and output, which we evaluated once they returned to the office. Each went on solo trips to Unyoked locations for 3 days at a time beside control groups conducted in the office. The results? 86% of those involved had discovered new ways of working in nature that benefitted their creative process. And every participant reported that they believed immersion in nature led to better creative outcomes. If you see yourself as a "thinker" or your role or hobbies have anything to do with what you'd call "creativity", this report is for you. This one tree sat on the edge of The Big Retreat Festival campsite was more important to our site build last week than you would think. Walking past, you wouldn't notice anything distinct about it. Unfortunately though, it has Ash Dieback; a disease which can result in branches and sometimes the entire tree falling unpredictably. When we start to plan an event site, we will map out any tree canopies and refer to existing surveys to identify any that may cause problems. That brought us to this tree here. As it sits on the edge of the campsite, we had to consider it's fall angle and cordon off the area to ensure that nobody would camp in the potential danger zone. (Note for future projects: don't let the rope get tangled!) This is just one example of the insane attention to detail that goes into event planning and the foresight needed when turning a blank map into a fully developed site; we've built this foresight through decades of experience on the ground.
