Fine & Associates’ Post

In Ontario, there are key distinctions between common law relationships and legally married relationships. 👫 Common Law Partners are considered as such after: ● Living together in a conjugal relationship for at least three years, or ● Having a child together and living together for one year. Married Spouses have access to property division under the Family Law Act, which may entitle one party to an equalization payment. Common law spouses, however, are not entitled to the same property division system and only retain legal ownership of assets in their name. Need clarity on your relationship status and rights?
