Environmental Finance, an online news and analysis service that reports on sustainable investment, green finance, and activity within environmental markets, has opened their Environmental Market Rankings for 2025. Voting is open until January 19, 2025, and we would be honored to receive your vote for the North American markets (California) category. Here's why we're qualified: 🌳 Since our founding in 2009, we have developed more than 60 forest carbon projects across nearly 4 million acres in the voluntary and compliance markets. 🌳 We developed California's very first compliance project and have since generated over one-third of California's compliance offset supply. 🌳 To date, our developed projects have generated over 100 million offsets which have delivered more than $1 billion in carbon revenue to indigenous communities, land trusts, family landowners, TIMOs, REITs, and the local communities surrounding the forests. Contact Energy’s proposed 300 MW Southland wind farm has cleared a significant planning hurdle, receiving a favourable assessment from the Environmental Protection Authority. The project aligns with regional and district council objectives regarding water quality, infrastructure, and emission reductions. Located east of Wyndham, the wind farm will feature 55 turbines, each with a tip height of 220 metres, spanning 58 square kilometres of forestry and farmland. Expected to generate up to 1,200 GWh annually, the development is positioned to make a meaningful contribution to New Zealand's renewable energy goals. Collaboration with local iwi has also been a key focus, reinforcing the project's commitment to environmental and community considerations. ___________________________________________________ To read the full article please visit the Energynews website via the link below; https://lnkd.in/g35dkW_M

South Africa Introduces New Guidelines for Solar Energy Projects South Africa’s Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE) has introduced fresh guidelines for solar photovoltaic (PV) and battery energy storage systems (BESS) developed in areas of “low” or “medium” environmental sensitivity. The guidelines represent a shift in South Africa’s renewable energy strategy, aiming to expedite renewable investments and project development while ensuring the protection of environmentally sensitive regions. In eligible zones, developers can streamline the environmental authorization (EA) process, reducing bureaucratic hurdles. Under... Read more on the link below https://lnkd.in/gsteqwu9

The recent Global News article by Amanda Stephenson highlights Jonathan Wilkinson’s push for more carbon capture projects to combat climate change. While these initiatives are crucial, it's equally important to explore innovative solutions within the forestry sector. Deadwood’s technology can utilize fast-growing aspen trees as a sustainable feedstock for high-quality hardwood production. Aspen regenerates quickly and does not require replanting, making it an ideal resource. More importantly, aspen trees sequester carbon effectively, absorbing CO2 from the atmosphere as they grow. By converting aspen into durable hardwood, we lock away this carbon, contributing to long-term carbon storage. This approach not only reduces the need for old growth forest harvesting but also supports Canada's carbon reduction goals. As we continue to innovate, we invite policymakers, industry leaders, and stakeholders to support sustainable forestry practices that enhance carbon sequestration and promote a greener future. https://lnkd.in/g8zqq4EJ #forestry #lumber #sustainability

Give the sheep what they want! '“You can reduce heat stress to plants by watering them more or shading them some,” Higgins said. “If you shade them some—which is what you’re going to do, for example, in a Wyoming project that’s on non-irrigated lands—you’re going to reduce some of that heat stress on those plants. Those plants tend to grow a little more, and as they grow a little more, the sheep take advantage of them.” The study found that, while the sheep grazing near the solar panels experienced a 38 percent drop in the quantity of grazable vegetation, that was offset by an increase in the available plants’ quality, as measured by the nutritional makeup of the vegetation’s tissue. Despite having access to less vegetation, the sheep grazing near solar panels “were gaining weight at their maximum rate,” and reached similar peak weights to sheep on the open field, Higgins said. “We actually had to fence the sheep in the open field to keep them in the open field, because, given the choice, they all preferred to be in the solar.”' #farmers #sheep #shade #climatesolutions #agrovoltaics #sheepapproved
Wyoming, not a state known for its acceptance of #renewableenergy, has seen a recent uptick in #agrivoltaics projects! Agrivoltaics is the combination of ranching or agriculture with the placement of ground-level solar panels. WORKING TOGETHER TO ACHIEVE NEW OPPORTUNITIES FOR AGRICULTURE AND RENEWABLE ENERGY We have worked closely with Gerard Coggan's team from the Queensland Government’s Office of Coordinator-General to take our Ag Precinct vision from idea to reality. They coordinated with various government departments and the Scenic Rim Regional Council to ensure our plans for the Scenic Rim Agricultural Industrial Precinct maximise the benefits for agriculture, renewable energy, our local community, and the environment. Minister for State Development and Infrastructure, Grace Grace, and the Minister for Agricultural Industry Development and Fisheries and Rural Communities, Mark Furner, and their departments have been supportive of our vision for the Precinct. Likewise, our project drivers are closely aligned with those of the Scenic Rim Regional Council’s to deliver regional prosperity. We would like to acknowledge the many people within government – State, Local and Federal - who have helped guide us to gain the approvals required to deliver our future-focused plan for agricultural manufacturing and renewable energy in the Scenic Rim. How much do you really know about biomass? The young commercial timber industry that reigns in the state of #georgia. “Georgia is number one in the nation for annual economic impact from forestry, from 42 billion in 2022” Georgia Forestry Commission environmental lawyers at Southern Environmental Law Center or activists with Georgia Interfaith Power & Light all have a different perspective on this complicated industry that turns trees into cardboard or into pellets to be burned for "renewable" energy. Now that Enviva filed for bankruptcy it could be a pivotal moment for the industry. https://lnkd.in/dCxf44q2
