I am glad to share that I have completed the 'Ethics of AI' course offered by the University of Helsinki. Over the past 6 weeks, I've delved deep into interesting and critical topics such as AI governance, algorithmic bias, data privacy, transparency, and the moral implications of AI in society. It demanded my time and full commitment to understanding and reaffirming the need for ethics and responsible AI. This journey has reinforced my commitment to advancing the cause of AI ethics and ensuring that AI and emerging technologies are developed and deployed responsibly. The future of AI is as much about ethical considerations as it is about technological advancements. I'm excited to continue contributing to this crucial dialogue and to advocate for frameworks that promote fairness, accountability, and transparency in AI systems. Who's using AI companions? An AI companion, such as Replika, Character.AI, or Kindroid, is an app designed to engage in human-like interactions. AI companions can provide emotional support and a sense of friendship. More needs to be understood about how to design them for safe and fair interactions, considering the diverse needs of different users. If you're an AI enthusiast and power user, please consider participating in this study. It has been approved by the University of Sydney and has been designed by great researchers including Raffaele F Ciriello and Uri Gal.

Game Changer joins an international alliance of scientists, policy makers and innovators in the common goal of using AI technology to advance science and society. The declaration deeply reflects the values of the Game Changer platform, emphasizing transparency, respect for privacy and high ethical standards, as key guidelines in shaping the Game Changer AI technology promotion program. The text of the Declaration brings the obligation of the signatories that the development of AI technology in scientific research work is guided by the principles of fairness, diversity and inclusiveness, in order to avoid bias and discrimination. With the basic postulates of responsible development and use of AI, the Declaration brings obligations of transparency and privacy, while respecting the highest ethical standards. The text of the Declaration recognizes the need for rigorous monitoring, accountability and protection measures against potential misuse of technology. The efficient use of artificial intelligence automates processes in scientific research, which generate new knowledge and help solve global challenges such as climate change, disease and inequality. The Declaration calls on the global scientific community, policy makers and stakeholders to unite in a commitment to harnessing the potential of artificial intelligence for the advancement of science and humanity. 🚀 Wayback Wednesday: Can AI Improve Public Safety? In March 2024, Sheikh Rabiul Islam, an assistant professor of computer science at Rutgers University–Camden, explored how AI can enhance public safety in two groundbreaking research papers. The first paper focused on preventing school shootings by developing an AI model capable of predicting potential threats from social media posts. Islam's team aimed to create a unified prediction system by analyzing sentiments from photos and text across major social networks. The second paper addressed reducing DUI fatalities through AI-supported data analysis to map DUI-related incidents more fairly and accurately. By incorporating variables like population, age, and income, the AI model provided insights for better resource allocation in law enforcement, aiming to decrease DUI-related deaths. Islam envisions a future where AI fosters safer communities and addresses global challenges, promoting peace and justice.
