Lots of changes going on! The ACT is shortening their test and making the science section optional. Students can now choose between the ACT, the ACT plus science, the ACT plus writing, or the ACT plus science and writing. Students can take the digital shortened test in April 2025; the paper shortened test will debut in September 2025. Pretty confusing! #standardizedtesting #ACT #collegeadmissions #collegeplanning #highschoolstudents

This research paper examines the integration of social media projects into higher education, highlighting their potential to enhance student engagement, promote collaboration, and develop digital literacy. It also addresses challenges and presents future directions for leveraging social media in a rapidly evolving digital landscape. The article outlines multiple practical strategies that educators can employ to effectively integrate social media projects into their teaching practices while ensuring inclusivity, accessibility, and digital citizenship: Platform Selection: Choose platforms that align with learning goals, offer intuitive interfaces, support accessibility across devices, and provide privacy controls to safeguard data and maintain students' safety. Inclusivity and Access: Design flexible projects that accommodate diverse learning styles, skill levels, and preferences. This includes scaffolded guidance to equip students with necessary digital literacy skills and alternative assignment options for those unable or unwilling to participate on social media platforms. Instructional Design: Ensure assignments are aligned with course objectives, emphasize creative and critical thinking, and include comprehensive instructions and support materials to reduce confusion. Ethical and Digital Citizenship Training: Embed discussions on privacy, ethical online behavior, and digital citizenship into course activities. This includes teaching about privacy settings, informed consent, netiquette, and intellectual property to foster a respectful and responsible online environment. Flexibility and Continuous Improvement: Incorporate mechanisms for feedback and reflective practice to adapt projects to students' evolving needs. Allow flexibility in project formats to empower meaningful participation. By implementing these strategies, educators can create socially engaging, inclusive, and ethically responsible learning experiences through social media integration in higher education. Brandon Wright, Ph.D. posted about intrusive advising recently and it made me think about how I once became apathetic and questioned the value of going to school. I can remember telling my advisor that I wanted to drop out and of course my grades reflected it. I was placed on academic suspension and sat out for a semester. I worked to save money and pay for one class the following semester and I took newswriting and reporting in the Spring of 2017. Dr. Jacqueline Shaia changed my trajectory she was the professor for this class but was familiar with my story. She pulled me to the side in Heritage Hall and told me the truth and what I needed to do, told me about the resources and demanded that I would not miss ONE class that semester. She was not playing any games with me and checked in often. I missed one class that semester but it was to go do the very thing I was learning in her class; working the Red Carpet for the 2017 Stellar Awards. When I returned from Vegas I gave her this media pass as a keepsake. (The absence was excused of course) Had it not been for her intentionality I possibly would not have graduated college, seriously; here it is weekend after weekend I am now researching doctoral programs 😀…..there is some good to this intrusive style. This model should be considered more often. #HigherEducation #Advising #StellarAwards #LasVegas #UAB #Graduate

Wishing to be part of the growing movement of innovators addressing problematic pedagogical conditions, we are celebrating our first birthday with a free interdisciplinary conference in which we hope to come together and midwife a Sophianic Renaissance in higher education, offering practical solutions and posing vital questions. Together, we will explore questions like: "Why do we go to school in the first place?" "Out of what type of philosophical ground should wisdom-based pedagogical models grow?" and "How (and why) can we forge innovative pathways to financing both the wisdom-based education of the global student body and the ground-breaking institutions that are bringing this type of education forward?" To this end, our leadership team and core faculty will give presentations to reflect our visionary and groundbreaking partnership-based approach to liberating learning from outmoded pedagogical, financial, and bureaucracy-driven imperatives. Focusing instead on a model centered on partnerships between executives, professors, administrators, students, and patrons, Kosmos Institute aims to incorporate diverse perspectives and foster dynamic coalitions among those similarly inspired to accelerate the path of change. At this free conference, you will also learn about the many exciting and enhanced focus areas and courses we have been developing for the 20252026 school year and beyond. We hope you can join us on the winter solstice to celebrate one year of Kosmos Institute! https://lnkd.in/gW8q5Kmi
