Necessary in closed comps in which the weaker teams can't be replaced by stronger teams waiting in the wings. Necessary in closed comps in which the participating teams represent the entire pool of potential teams. So yes, self-evidently, the weak must be maintained and supported to sustain the comp. The reason it hardly seems aligned with creating a competitive environment is...it isn't. Not ordinarily. Nit in an open environment. But when you're "creating" the environment interfering with the environment to manufacture competitive balance is necessary. What's not necessary is to create a closed environment, protected from external 'threats' which would make it stronger. And in sport, more interesting, diverse and inclusive. But doing so, and entrenching investment in it, necessarily leads to protection; the antithesis to competition. This is obvious from the outside. From within, though, I can only imagine that maintaining the stylised, manufactured world, protected from outside unwanted elements, would seem obvious. When the government is inside too, we may have a clue about the problem.

Innovation in Sports Ownership: The Superbike Ladies League Adopts an National Basketball Association (NBA) -Inspired Model In the dynamic world of sports, the ownership structure of a team is crucial for its success. The Superbike Ladies League (#SLL) has recently announced its intention to adopt an ownership model inspired by the prestigious NBA. This strategic move aims to strengthen team management and increase fan engagement. The National Basketball Association (NBA) requires a true owner to hold at least 15% of the franchise, ensuring significant involvement in team management. For the #SLL, this would translate to acquiring a minimum stake of 1.5 million euros for a team valued at 10 million euros, ensuring that owners are deeply involved and accountable. Additionally, the SLL would allow passive investors to hold up to 5%, or 500,000 euros, allowing them to contribute financially without active management participation. The remaining 85%, or 8.5 million euros, would be distributed among other major and minor investors, potentially including fans through collective ownership programs. Implementing this model will require careful market valuation of teams, clear rules for buying and selling stakes, and stakeholder approval.
