The New AgriFood Report 2023 is online 🥳 Together with the Boston Consulting Group (BCG), we as the German AgriFood Society have once again asked German startups from the agri, food and biotech sectors intensively about their start-up experiences in this year's survey. Empowering Agri-Entrepreneurs for a Brighter Future! The Department of Agriculture & Farmers' Welfare has been driving innovation in agriculture through the “Innovation and Agri-Entrepreneurship Development” program under Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY) since 2018-19. This initiative aims to foster agri-entrepreneurship by providing financial and technical support to nurture startups. 5 Knowledge Partners (KPs) and 24 RKVY Agribusiness Incubators (R-ABIs) dedicated to training and incubating these startups. The program offers financial support up to Rs. 5 lakh at the idea/pre-seed stage and up to Rs. 25 lakh at the seed stage, enabling entrepreneurs to launch and scale their innovations. Through national-level programs like agri-startup conclaves, fairs, exhibitions, webinars, and workshops, we connect agri-startups with key stakeholders, creating a vibrant ecosystem for growth. From 2019-20 to 2023-24, the government has released Rs. 122.50 crore to support 1708 startups through the KPs and R-ABIs.

Last week I attended Antler's #FridayBar event to hear the experts from the #AgriTech and #Food sector talking about the sustainability trends and innovations that will shape the industry as we know it now. Here are some of the #highlights from discussion: 📌 #Sustainability is embedding very quickly into this sector and investors can see a rapid increase year over year. This is great news considering the fact that this sector is responsible for around 21% of global #co2emissions. 📌 #Plantbased food alternatives are getting more and more attention. However due to increasing competition only handful of products will get the strong position on the market.... but which ones? Interestingly, one of the keys to success might be its #taste. 📌 #Food grown in the bioreactors and labs will become a standard. Therefore, investments into #hardware in this sector are needed and inevitable in order to be able to feed the increasing world's population. #innovations #agricultureinnovation #foodinnovation #sustainabilitytrends #startups #vcfunding #vcinsights
