We want to take a moment to highlight an important aspect of housing association governance that greatly affects your operations and Board effectiveness, which is minute-taking. Taking effective minutes of key decisions and discussions is essential for clear communication, information sharing, and compliance with regulations. If the role of minute-taking is not well understood, important details may be missed, leading to missed opportunities to showcase your Board's work, possibly resulting in legal issues and inefficiencies within the organisation. We offer tailored services to help Boards and governance teams capture important discussions and decisions effectively through our training: 📝 Introduction to Practical Minute-Taking for new minute-takers and ✍🏻⚖️Advanced Minute Taking perfect for those with some experience. For organisations seeking personalised support, we also offer Board and governance consultancy services to help your team prepare to meet all legal and regulatory requirements. Thanks to everyone who attended our final QLD seminars for 2024! It was great catching up with all our referrers and diving into some of the fascinating and complex administrations we've handled this year: • A builder and their accountant thought they had a foolproof strategy to hide their business—until we found the cracks in their plan. • A director who believed that ignoring the issues would solve everything; unfortunately, this was not the case. • Another director and accountant who didn’t fully grasp the ATO’s Director Penalty Regime. • Additionally, a lesson for lawyers on the importance of carefully checking the documents you're delivering. As we plan for 2025, we look forward to welcoming you back for more insightful discussions and learning opportunities. Need assistance? We’re just a phone call away. Remember, the sooner you act, the more options are available. #Qldseminars #Networking #ProfessionalDevelopment #BusinessChallenges #LessonsLearned

Our lived experiences can be just as valuable as traditional training and educational opportunities. Policies promoting Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) allow educational institutions to put tangible value on those experiences by offering academic credits. This approach helps adult learners, especially those who are low-income, people of color, and immigrants, complete degrees more quickly. Our local college partners Pierce College, Bates Technical College, Clover Park Technical College, and Tacoma Community College all offer CPL programs, making education that much more attainable to our traditionally underserved populations.
We at CAEL are excited to release, in partnership with the American Council on Education (ACE), the results of a national scan of state and system policies on Credit for Prior Learning (CPL). Almost every state has some kind of state or system CPL policy on the books. Most have originated with legislation, but state agencies, governor’s offices, and postsecondary systems also have had a lot to say about how CPL is offered and administered. The CAEL and ACE research teams categorized more than 360 state and system policies according to 11 different policy themes — including methods of assessment, requiring each institution to have a CPL policy, transcription, transfer, data collection, to name just a few. Our analysis of these policies, along with examples for each of the themes, is available in a new policy brief, The National Landscape of Credit for Prior Learning (CPL): Effective State and System Policies for Success and Equity. But even more exciting is an interactive database with filters for state, policy theme, and the source of the policy (e.g., legislation, state administrative code, etc.). Both are available here: https://hubs.li/Q02_ZWtP0 CAEL and ACE together have more than a century of experience in advocating for CPL. We hope you enjoy this new offering from our joint efforts! #CPL #CreditForPriorLearning #Policy Rachel G. A. Hirsch, Becky Klein-Collins, Maria Claudia Soler, Ph.D., Erica Swirsky, Kara Seidel

Excited to share that earlier this week we released 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗟𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗽𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗶𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 (𝗖𝗣𝗟): 𝗘𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗘𝗾𝘂𝗶𝘁𝘆—a collaborative effort between the American Council on Education and CAEL—and a whole lot of coffee ☕ The report and the interactive database feature over 360 state and system policies, carefully categorized by state, policy themes and source (e.g. legislation, state administrative code, etc.), to help higher education leaders, policymakers, and stakeholders create and scale effective CPL policies. https://lnkd.in/edH3G428. This work is our way of emphasizing that prior learning matters and that supporting adult students in completing their credentials is essential. A huge thank-you to my co-authors Becky Klein-Collins, Erica Swirsky, Kara Seidel, and Rachel G. A. Hirsch, and to others in the team who collaborated, built the database/site, reviewed drafts, and shared insights along the way: Hironao Okahana, C. Emmanuel Wright, Bill Setzer, Ally Hammond, Lindsay Macdonald, Audrey Hamilton, Abby Del Bene, Jnai Baylor, MBA, CDMP, Andy P. Stefanie Klett—you made this possible 🙌 Check out our work here: https://lnkd.in/edH3G428 We are also hosting a 𝘄𝗲𝗯𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗿 𝗶𝗻 𝗝𝗮𝗻𝘂𝗮𝗿𝘆 to dive into the results and learn from states with comprehensive CPL models, so stay tuned!
