With all the challenges of balancing sustainability with market factors, progress toward building sector decarbonization can seem slow. Articles like this one, though, help me stay optimistic, as we continue to electrify our buildings, as the easiest thing we can do to be part of a carbon-emissions solution in the built-environment sector. We ARE making progress (one project at a time)!

It is inspiring to witness organizations embracing zero-energy standards, where buildings operate solely on renewable energy sources like solar power and battery storage. These initiatives not only reduce environmental impact but also set a precedent for sustainable living and construction practices. By setting clear definitions for sustainability goals, we can encourage each other to work together towards a more sustainable future. #SustainableConstruction #ZeroEmissions #Sustainability

Hat-tip to Lisa Lin, LEED AP and the Harris County Office of County Administration's Sustainability Office for their partnership with the UH Cullen College of Engineering in engaging University of Houston researchers in developing energy performance baselines for county buildings and then identifying #energyefficiency measures to reduce consumption. They've saved $230k per year already with a 2-year payback. This is an important initiative in helping Harris County to achieve its goal of reducing the greenhouse gas emissions from the operations of its buildings by 50% over the next five years. #climateaction #climatesolutions #houston https://lnkd.in/gqwUfjiZ
