Two wildfires in New Mexico have scorched more than 24,000 acres and destroyed 1,400 structures. The wildfires, named the South Fork and Salt fires, continue to spread as the region faces threats of flash flooding. These satellite images show an overview of the South Fork wildfire in both natural color and color infrared. In the infrared image, black/grey shades show burned areas while red/pink shades depict healthy vegetation. Our team has been working with first responders to help conduct damage assessments in partnership with the United States Air Force Civil Air Patrol, FEMA and National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency. The wildfires remain 0% contained according to the State of New Mexico’s latest update. #satelliteimagery #nmfire #southforkfire #saltfire #ruidoso #disasterresponse #geospatialintelligence #gis #geospatial

why hasn't the Croatian Civil Defence adopted thermal radars and cameras as a standard tool in their firefighting arsenal? What more evidence in the world is needed to justify this investment in public safety and resource protection? Isn't it time to prioritize proactive measures that could potentially save lives, property, and natural resources? It's a sad reality to see such preventable loss when innovative solutions are readily available.
🔥Croatian firefighters engaged in a dramatic battle against coastal wildfires on Wednesday night. These wildfires, ignited by extreme heat, strong winds, and prolonged drought, posed significant challenges to local communities. Despite successfully containing the blaze, the fires still resulted in some casualties and property damage. To prevent or mitigate such losses in the future, thermal imaging cameras can be employed for monitoring. These advanced surveillance tools can detect abnormal high-temperature areas in real-time, issuing timely alerts to help firefighters pinpoint the source and effectively control the spread of fires. Moreover, the high sensitivity and long-range detection capability of thermal imaging provide robust technical support for firefighting efforts, ensuring the efficiency and safety of rescue operations while reducing potential losses and risks. #thermal #thermalcamera #thermalimaging #fire #safety #firefighting #night #surveillance #wildfire #successfully #firefighter

The last 10 years has seen wildfires becoming a more destructive force. This impacts communities, wildlife, and ecosystems worldwide. A key factor in escalating this damage is the lack of resources for effective wildfire prevention and protection. Here's 5 things that can be worked on - 1. Better support for scientific research on response, strategy and tactics related to fire behavior, climate impacts, and policy updating to facilitate quicker and more coordinated emergency responses. 2. Investment in modern firefighting vehicles, high-capacity airtankers, helicopters, and new-generation drop systems and agents for aerial firefighting efforts. 3. Implement AI-driven satellite imagery and fund drone packages and surveillance to provide real-time data streaming and identify fire outbreaks. 4. Develop and implement proof-of-concept contracts to allow testing of new and innovative technologies. 5. Provide incentives and rebates for individuals and companies who strive to live firewise. Wildfires have been here for millions of years. And we yet face immense difficulty in tackling one. About time we invest and put in a conscious effort to tackle them the right way.

As wildfires continue to spread through northeastern British Columbia, safety is paramount. Canadian authorities are urging immediate evacuation from affected areas, emphasizing the threat posed by rapidly spreading fires and the smoke filled air they leave behind. With thousands already displaced and conditions worsening, prioritizing air quality is crucial. @nbcnews reports, “The blaze, which started Friday, almost doubled in size the following day, reaching about 4,200 acres.” AtmosAir stands with communities in this challenging time, offering advanced air purification systems to safeguard your well-being. Most homes are not fully sealed from outdoor air, and with our patented technology, we want to ensure that even amidst thick smoke and haze, you breathe clean, safe air when indoors. In the midst of wildfire season, proactive action is our greatest defense. Seal your home, remove any flammable debris surrounding your home, install air filtration units, and evacuate if advised. #WildfireSafety #AtmosAir #CleanAir #BCWildfires

I interviewed 100+ wildfire professionals throughout Europe. Despite differences across the continent, one message was echoed by every single person I spoke to. We're focusing too much on firefighting aircraft, and too little on healthy and resilient landscapes. Wildfire management suffers badly from a shallow media frame. We see fires, the enemy, and we see trucks and aircraft, our soldiers on the front line fighting the enemy. So we may think: if I want to be safe against wildfires, we probably need more airplanes and trucks. So we may hear our politicians say: I invested €200M in three new fighting aircraft, and we might feel more reassured. One person used this analogy: if you build a 5-story building completely of wood, without fire exits or smoke detectors, it doesn't matter how many fire trucks your town has, you'll be toast before help arrives. Resilient landscapes: 🌲🌳 Have high biodiversity 🔥Let fire happen when and where it's safe 🐑 Manage (dead) vegetation build up through crazing or cutting 🛑 Have sufficient fire breaks #learntolivewithfire #wildfires #if #biodiversity #climatechange
