Malaysian Breakfast Ideas! 🌞🍽️ Start your day with with these wholesome breakfast ideas: 1️⃣ Nasi Lemak: Nasi lemak can be considered a balanced meal in my opinion. Served with side of sambal, sliced cucumbers, anchovies and a boiled egg. That sounds like a well balanced meal if you ask me! A good option to keep it more manageable calorie-wise is to go with the nasi lemak bungkus, pre packed nasi lemak in its most basic form. Each bungkus gives you a smaller portion which helps save tons of calories! 2️⃣ Nasi Kerabu: It’s a ‘healthy’ dish as it comprises a mixture of herbs and ulam (greens). As the veggies are eaten raw and fresh, they are high in fibre, vitamin and antioxidants. They’re also served with grilled chicken, which is a good source of protein! 3️⃣ Thosai: Prepared with minimal oil, thosai is a good source of protein as it is made from rice, dhal and fenugreek seeds. Eat it with dhal instead of chutney would be optimal as chutney are high in saturated fats. But what’s a thosai without chutney right? Enjoy them in moderation 😉 4️⃣ Chicken Porridge: Warm and comforting, chicken porridge (bubur ayam) makes for a nutritious breakfast. Top it with shredded chicken, ginger, spring onions, and a drizzle of soy sauce for added taste. 5️⃣ Eggs and Toast: Keep it simple and satisfying with a classic combo of eggs and toast. Choose your preferred style of eggs—poached, scrambled, or boiled/half boiled—and pair them with a slice of whole grain bread. 6️⃣ Chapati: Unlike roti canai, it does not use a lot of oil and this helps you to save those extra calories. I would recommend eating it with dhal as they’re low in fat, high in protein and fibres. Customise these dishes to fit your dietary needs and preferences.
