Ramadan Mubarak to Muslim students, work-integrated staff and external stakeholders who are currently observing Ramadan! Some tips to support: ☪ Encourage awareness amongst your academic or work team about Ramadan and invite both staff participating in and students completing work-integrated learning to make their needs during Ramadan known. Many Muslims will fast during this period, but not all will, so this should be done in a sensitive manner ☪ If you have team members / students fasting, avoid having work events that involve food, such as working lunches and team meetings with food provided ☪ Avoid scheduling important meetings, such as evaluations, late in the day when energy levels may be depleted ☪ Be considerate if students and/or staff ask for time off at the end of Ramadan (Eid al-Fitr). This is one of two major holidays in the Muslim calendar. While students (especially those not covered by employment agreements) are not legally entitled to time off for religious reasons, institutional staff should be sensitive to the needs of employees who are observing religious events, including Ramadan.

In a disturbing incident in Sikkim's Soreng district, a language instructor at a government school stands accused of molesting 12 female students aged 8-14. The school received a complaint on May 8, leading to the filing of an FIR on May 10. The police report details how the students disclosed enduring physical abuse by the teacher over a prolonged period. The accused instructor, identified as DB Tamang, had been hired just three months prior and was part of a recent teacher regularization initiative. Following the complaint, the teacher was arrested under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The case has sparked outrage and raised concerns about child safety in educational institutions. Investigations are ongoing to uncover the full extent of the alleged misconduct. This incident underscores the critical need for stringent measures to safeguard students and ensure the accountability of educators. Such cases highlight the importance of prompt reporting and swift action to protect vulnerable individuals within the educational system. #sikkim #arrest #soreng #district #teacher #molestation #femalestudents #case #concerns #childsafety #educational #institutions #investigations #misconduct #thecordbharat

In a world where professional growth, power, position, and money are pursued, we sometimes lost sight of what's most important in education— the virtue of knowledge and good character. The acquisition of knowledge in Islam lies under the essence of 'amaanah' (responsibility). All the knowledge, skills, and position we attained are simply a blessing from Allah, and in fact an 'amaanah' that will be held accountable. Once a Muslim embrace this concept in the practice of the faith, instead of limiting religion to individual acts of worship, faith will start to manifest as a beautiful way of life and examplary ethics at workplace. It will manifest beautifully in the way a boss treat their staff, the way a worker connect with their colleagues, the way a teacher handle their students, the way a supervisor assist their subordinates. It will manifest as a good character. Because in the end none of all the knowledge, power, skills, money, and positions ever belong to us. There is no place for arrogance or ill-intention in a heart that truly understand the essence of 'amaanah' in a workplace, and will not purposefully harm others along the way.

It is also important to note that this is a professional workplace, not the buai market. And in a professional workplace, it is important to carry yourself with professionalism. If you want growth in your field, despite your position, you have to show that you're capable, determined, and willing to take on the now Universally spoken English language with both locals and expats, makes no difference at all. As long as both parties can understand each other, there is nothing wrong with using the English Language. Speak it everywhere you go, build your confidence in speaking the English language, build your vocab, do not let anyone make you feel like you're showing off for speaking the universally spoken language.
DO NOT BE OVER HUMBLED. Walked into our Country's famous Stationery and asked one of the assistant working in there "Do you have the 4ring Folders in stock?" he replied "No". And then he proceed to ask me if I am a white person or a Papua New Guinean and to that I told him you can clearly see that I am a Papua New Guinean, why do you feel the need to ask this. His response was ol "white manmeri Kam okay Umi English na Umi yet maski Umi tok pisin" (Let us communicate in English with Expertriates but speak pidgin if we're local). Why after all the efforts you put into your education, mind you, Papua New Guinean teachers taught you. And you don't respect yourself enough to value that. You choose to value color over what you learnt? Please do not be over humbled. Speaking English will not kill you. Our parents spent Thousands just for us to be educated in English. Respect their struggle and sacrifice.

I am extremely delighted to share that my latest Opinion article titled “Ensuring student safety on campus” has been published in today’s newspaper of Balochistan Times, the first english daily of Balochistan. The tragic death of Minahil, a 21-year-old student from MNSU, Multan, caused by university’s own bus serves as a stark reminder of the critical need for improved safety measures for student protection on university campuses. My article highlights the importance of ensuring student safety, the severe consequences when institutional negligence prevails and the need for long-overdue reforms. Minahil’s untimely passing should be a wake-up call for educational institutions across the country. Her body remained in the scorching heat for 3 hours on the instructions of the university’s VC, which is a violation of Minahil’s dignity under Article 14 of the Constitution. It’s time to enforce proper traffic regulations, safety protocols, and create an environment that truly prioritizes the welfare of students.
