Arizona State University's Global Security Initiative catalyzes defense and security research throughout the university — from building new sponsor relationships through project execution. As part of this mission, GSI offers targeted pre-award support for faculty and staff pursuing security-related research. In fiscal year 2023, GSI research and programming centers generated: $28.8M+ in total research expenditure with 93 proposals submitted in FY23. GSI has extensive experience with government and industry sponsors, particularly in the Department of Defense (DoD) and Intelligence Community (IC). GSI has helped create successful projects with federal DoD/IC/DHS sponsors, and has shepherded partnerships with national labs and research-centric industry partners. Vanderbilt University announced the launch of its Vanderbilt University Institute of National Security, led by Paul M. Nakasone, former director of the National Security Agency, former commander of U.S. Cyber Command and retired four-star general. "The launch of the institute is timely to address one of our nation’s most pressing national security challenges: a talent crisis. In a message published by the White House, Seeyew Mo, the assistant national cyber director for cyber workforce, training and education, wrote: “In our increasingly digital world, demand for cyber talent is only going to grow. I am happy to share with my LinkedIn community that upon acceptance of our abstract, my esteemed advisor Dr. Pao-wen Li and I have successfully submitted our manuscript for the special issue on the "State of the Art in Foreign Policy Analysis" of the journal Uluslararası İlişkiler/International Relations, guest edited by Professor Dr. Binnur ÖZKEÇECİ-TANER, and Leslie WEHNER. In this upcoming work, titled “Navigating Foreign Policy in the Cyber Landscape: A Novel Model for State Decision-Making in Cyberspace,” we address the evolving dynamics between cyberspace and traditional foreign policy-making processes. We propose a novel model to synthesize factors from both realms, enabling state leaders to make informed decisions in cyberspace. Today I was accepted into the Order of the Sword and Shield National Honor Society (Omicron Sigma Sigma). The Order of the Sword & Shield National Honor Society is recognized as the largest organization representing Homeland Security, Intelligence, Emergency Management, Cyber, Information Security, and all Protective Security disciplines. It is distinguished as the honor society encompassing the complete spectrum of the homeland security mission. Looking forward to the SMBiT Professionals National Conference. Great to catch up with the luminaries of the SME IT industry. I will be presenting practical examples of how we use #AI for #cybersecurity. We are still accepting new abstract submissions for the 20th International Conference on Cyber Warfare and Security (ICCWS 2025) which will be held at William & Mary Law School, Williamsburg, Virginia, USA on the 28 - 29 March 2025. ICCWS 2025 is an opportunity for academics, military personnel, practitioners and consultants from around the world who are involved in the study, management, development and implementation of systems and concepts to combat information warfare or to improve information systems security to come together and exchange ideas. There are several strong strands of research developing in the cyber warfare and cyber security area including the understanding of threats and risks to information systems, the development of a strong security culture, as well as incident detection and post incident investigation. New threats brought about by social networking and cloud computing are gaining interest from the research community and the conference is tackling these issues.
