Kids and caregivers at the Pudney Hub enjoy their new shade cover, which was made possible in part thanks to a donation we gave through our impact model. Clare Pudney, who runs the centre, shared some lovely words about it: "This addition to our playground has made the world of difference for our children - in the hotter months our turf previously got too hot for little bare feet to stand on. Some of our children have a real sensory aversion to wearing shoes, so on those hot days they couldn't play outside. We also used to have to put our slide under the shade of the tree, but now it can be put elsewhere leaving a lovely area for rugs and books and toys. The flexibility these umbrellas give us are awesome - we can choose which play equipment to shade at different times of the day - can't do without them!" So happy to hear about how the wonderful Pudney Hub community are thriving in the shade, ready to stay out of the Hawke's Bay heat this summer!

As Giving Tuesday approaches (collective deep breath for all my fellow fundraisers!), I want to give an early shout-out to PEPS. When I joined the team, many of you shared how your PEPS Group shaped your early parenthood journey. In my first month here, I've learned that program fees cover just 25% of the cost to run these groups. In the aftermath of the election, one piece of advice has been echoed: center yourself in community. Community can be hard to find, but PEPS makes it possible for over 4000 parents a year. If PEPS impacted you or you want to support parents, please consider giving: https://lnkd.in/gZa6fpgD

Mill Ridge Park is more than a park—it’s a gateway to opportunities for connection and wellbeing. This year, we launched and facilitated year-round programs that empower individuals and create shared experiences. Your generosity helps care for this cherished greenspace and offer programs to meet the growing needs of our neighbors. One new program we’re designing for 2025 entails an inventory of bikes and trikes to share – plus safety gear, riding space and instructions, and organized community riding time. When you give to Friends of Mill Ridge Park, you create and support programs like Bikes & Besties! With your donation, we can teach an invaluable life skill, offer a fun and active way to experience the outdoors, and most importantly, build community. For kids, riding a bike is a rite of passage. For adults, it’s a means to improve health and reduce transportation barriers. For families, it’s forever memories shared. In a world that feels more disconnected than ever, offerings like this bring us together. Will you invest in the future of our community with a #GivingTuesday gift? Every gift, no matter the size, is a step (or pedal) toward creating a healthier, happier, and more connected community.

🎄Doing things a little differently back home… Every year, in our little semi-rural community, the voluntary fire station organises something a bit special for Christmas tree disposal. Families bring their trees down to the station, where they’re fed into a wood chipper by a local landscaper dressed as the Grinch, I mean why not, right. All donations go to support the local fire station, and it’s become a bit of a tradition. What I love about this isn’t just the quirky fun of it, but how it reflects something bigger, how small, simple efforts can have a meaningful impact. It’s a reminder that when a community comes together around a shared goal, even something ordinary like tree disposal can become an event, a fundraiser, and a memory. It makes me think about the work I do with data. Sometimes, we focus so much on the big, complex solutions, when often it’s the simple, consistent things, those smaller initiatives that grow over time, that make the real difference. Whether it’s transforming trees into mulch or transforming data into insight, the key is finding ways to bring people together around something valuable.

Serving is what I do. I search for opportunities and organizations that allow me to be involved in every way possible. Since I have a tremendous passion for children and a heart to help, I didn’t blink an eye when I met John Widrick, Director of the Bridge House, and heard about their mission. Even the process of forms, background checks and meetings to be approved for the in-house care team didn’t scare me. My desire to help those in need supersedes any frustrations of red tape. This ministry is more than just checking an internal “volunteer” box or getting that tax write-off for a donation; this is about changing a life.” For Amber Graves, you’ll find her diving in wherever there’s a need: giving her time to volunteer at the house, provide a huge platter of enchiladas through the meal train, even being part of the event planning team and connecting others to The Bridge House, encouraging them to take up the giving baton. “I’m going to get my kids involved, so they can experience with me what a true servant’s heart is and the impact it makes on the world around. It’s easy to give money, but when you realize these kids don’t have a home and your humble home-cooked meal means the world to them, it empowers you to go the extra mile. Because these kids need YOU!” Ready to make a change? Creative ways of philanthropy have been proven to be more impactful. Collective giving or giving circles are one way for individuals to strengthen their connection to their community by collectively learning and making strategic grants. 💙 Participation in these types of groups often leads to deeper individual connection to the community in the areas they care about. A recent study shows that participation in collective giving has grown to 4,000 groups, contributing over $3.1 billion — more than double their impact in the past seven years. ACF's Giving Network has granted over $2.5 million and expects to grant another $500,000 later this summer to support children and families in the region. By leaning into education and camaraderie, this type of philanthropy is a great way to get involved and learn about the pressing issues in your community. https://lnkd.in/dwsxrxDC

"A community is like a ship, everyone ought to be prepared to take the helm." - Henrik Ibsen In preparation for our episode of Generosity Experience Live today and my workshop on turning Giving Day supporters into recurring givers, I've also had to balance that not everyone participates in a Giving Day or even knows what I mean by that. I'm going to link to a good overview of the differences between #GivingTuesday and a community giving day, but here's the thing - we have opportunities to turn casual donations into sustainable support at any stage of the generosity experience, not just an organized giving day. These are all just channels—ultimately, people will respond to what is relevant, make them feel they did something important, and make them feel they are part of a bigger movement. You create opportunities for a generosity moment every single day - whenever your founder speaks in front of a crowd about your mission, an organized volunteer day, or a peer-to-peer fundraising event. No matter what, you can tap into that passion and turn it into community building. It isn't about the money, it's about the connection. Who will I see today or tomorrow to dive into this further?

We Teach More Than Just Martial Arts; we instill the values of kindness and community. ❤️ Giving back is essential in shaping our future leaders. During this season of giving and gratitude, let's empower our children to make a positive impact both on and off the mat! 🙌 Here are some fun ways to get your children involved in the act of giving back to the community this month: 🤲 Volunteer Time: Participate in community service projects together, such as helping at shelters or organizing clean-up days at parks. 💌 Thanksgiving or Christmas Cards: Create handmade cards to send to veterans, seniors, or community helpers expressing gratitude. 🧸 Toys for Tots: Gather gently used toys or new toys to donate to other children in need during the holiday season. 😊 Acts of Kindness: Encourage your children to perform random acts of kindness, like helping a friend or writing positive notes for classmates. #BuildingCharacter #GivingBack

Here are three tips to help combat loneliness as we move into spring: 1. Get Outside Take advantage of the improving weather by spending time outdoors. Whether it's going for a walk in the park, sitting in a garden, or simply enjoying the sunshine, being in nature can boost your mood and provide opportunities for casual interactions with others. 2. Join Community Events Many communities host outdoor events and activities during the spring season. Look for local gatherings, farmers' markets, or outdoor concerts where you can connect with others who share similar interests. Engaging in group activities can help alleviate loneliness by fostering new connections. 3. Volunteer Giving back to your community can be a rewarding way to combat loneliness while making a positive impact. Consider volunteering for spring clean-up efforts, community gardens, or other charitable organizations. Not only will you meet new people, but you'll also feel a sense of purpose and fulfillment. If you need help with any of these please ask as I have lots of experience. Keith 🙏
