No matter the day, week, or year, I always find myself advocating the most for improved women’s health outcomes. Why??? Women are the backbones of healthcare! They not only make up the majority of the healthcare workforce, but they are the Chief Medical Officers of their own family’s healthcare. Yet, they often delay their own care because they put the needs of others above their own. In a recent #RadioAdvisory podcast with my Advisory Board colleagues, Rachel Woods and Gabriela Marmolejos, MSPH, we dive into women’s healthcare during MIDLIFE and why this is such a crucial time to engage women more than we currently do. A Call to Action: The need to transform Women's Health Life presents us with moments that stir our hearts and minds—moments when we fall in love with a problem, feeling both passion and responsibility to drive change. For me, that moment came with women's health. The realities are eye-opening: - Women experience 25% lower quality of life compared to men - Heart disease: #1 killer of women in US, yet only 33% of clinical trial participants are female - Even though 100% of women living into late life experience menopause, it is woefully under-researched and poorly understood;  - 1 in 5 women consider leaving their careers during menopause due to lack of support and care And the list continues… As a health leader, a woman, and a mother of three girls, I'm amazed by how much remains unknown and unaddressed. The gaps in women's healthcare aren't just statistics—they represent untapped potential that could be immeasurably improved. I've fallen in love with this problem, and I'm committed to be part of the solution. I’m on a mission to stregnthen women's healthcare. To unlock the potential of every woman, at every stage of life. To create a world where women thrive in their lives. This is a human issue. Healthier women mean stronger families, more vibrant communities, and a brighter future for all. A Call to Action: 2025—The Year of Women’s Health Women are the backbone of families, communities, and societies, yet their health—especially in the second half of life—has long been an afterthought in healthcare priorities. That ends now. This year, I dedicate my advocacy to women, to championing their health at every stage of life. Whether it’s navigating the complex landscape of menopause, addressing chronic conditions that disproportionately impact women, or ensuring access to equitable maternal care, women deserve better. And as advocates, we must do more. The second half of life is not a time to slow down—it’s a time of renewal, opportunity, and strength. Yet too many women face this phase unprepared, underserved, and overlooked. From osteoporosis to cardiovascular disease, from managing autoimmune conditions to mental health support, the gaps in care are glaring. But the solutions are within our reach—if we choose to act. We must push for policies that prioritize women’s health. We must demand research that considers women’s unique biology, life experiences, and needs. We must challenge insurers to cover critical women’s health services and treatments. And we must meet women where they are, empowering them with the information, tools, and support they need to take charge of their health journey. To every organization, healthcare provider, policymaker, and advocate reading this: join me in making 2025 the year of women’s health. Let’s rally together to ensure that every woman, regardless of age, race, or socioeconomic status, has the opportunity to live a vibrant, healthy life. This is not just about healthcare—it’s about justice, equality, and respect. Women deserve nothing less. Together, let’s make this year one of action, one of progress, and one of unwavering dedication to women everywhere. It’s time to reclaim menopause and normalize the conversation around it. 🗣 When we start to think of it as a normal part of life, we can destigmatize women’s health and improve the overall care and treatment for women today and for future generations. Menopause affects each woman differently, with symptoms and experiences varying widely among individuals and across different ethnicities. For instance, women of African descent often report more severe and frequent hot flushes compared to their South Asian counterparts, who may experience joint pain and mood swings more prominently. Both demographics are less likely to seek help compared to their caucasian counterparts, and there are many factors contributing to this. However, we know menopause care cannot be a one size fits all approach. It's crucial to foster inclusion and ensure that all women, regardless of their background, have access to comprehensive care, support and education from perimenopause and beyond.
