It’s been just over three years since I decided to leave my career in hospitality, where I had spent over 13 years of my life. Hospitality, customer service, people management, and problem-solving were all I knew, making it both a scary and exciting decision. It can take time to realise that skills are not limited to a single job or sector but are valuable across various contexts, making them essential for career mobility and adaptability. The decision to change sectors or careers is significant. According to the OECD, greater career mobility often leads to longer working lives, higher wages, and better working conditions. This makes changing sectors a worthwhile investment, offering the opportunity to apply and enhance existing skills in new ways while providing a fresh perspective to a new workplace. #transferableskills #career #highereducation #studentaccommodation

🔹 Find Value in Every Job You Do People often say This isn’t the job I want to do. This mindset is common among overseas graduates. But let’s pause for a moment. Are you paying your bills and supporting yourself with your current job? Now, think about the soft skills you’re building: ↳Leadership ↳Organization ↳Problem-solving ↳Teamwork Imagine this: You’re a nurse working in a warehouse —You’re building a strong team spirit and learning time management. You work as a housekeeper in a hotel— Your attention to detail and customer service are improving. Employers don’t just look at your qualifications; They want to see those soft skills in action! And the good news? ↳These skills can be learned and polished in any job. Are You Waiting for Your Dream Job? Why not use this time to: ↳Learn the language you need to practice your profession in countries like Sweden, Germany, or Portugal. ↳Build your professional brand on LinkedIn to showcase your skills and experiences. ↳Learn new tools and skills like Stata, R, or other statistical software to boost your career prospects. Enjoy the job you’re doing now while building the future you want. Every step counts! PS: What is one soft skill you have developed in a job outside your field? #Elevateyourprofessionalpresencewith_Amaka #BuildingYourFuture #SoftSkills #StayMotivated #MindsetMatters

In my opinion these are 4 ‘P’ in Hospitality Mgmt. Education and career - 1- Perception & Publicity- Perception about Hospitality industry career is badly effected in last one decade. Erosion in that started before COVID , but in and after COVID till date we ALL STAKEHOLDERS are not able to create positive perception about career in Hospitality industry and it will be extremely difficult to turn around perception as time passes . It is responsiblity of all of us to do their bit in terms of creating positive vibes about career in hospitality by taking reasonable steps for people working in this industry by offering them good initial pay, better working conditions , scientific mentorship clearly showhing that industry is really serious about their young Human Resources and then with in 2-3 years perception will change and in results , we will in position to attract better suitable students in requisite numbers by infusing money in marketing to be provided by Govt., industry and IHMs in social media, print marketing with alumni success stories . 2- Product - Here is biggest catch - Product. Students coming to us for 3 years programme need to work on their attitude, personality, communication,Knowledge , Skill and other essential & relevant areas under the guidance of faculty and mentors , so that students themselves see the positive changes in themselves and appear in campus placement with positive zeal and get selected . It’s a dream but can be true provided we all work together . 3- Process - the process of developing the young students into a person full of positivity, knowledge, communication and skilled person is very important . We need to carefully look into our curriculum and inculcate the habit of self learning among students and then we can expect wonders . 4- Pride- Students need to develop the concept of pride in choosing and working in this career will help them to remain in this industry . This can only be possible if industry treat them well starting their Industrial Training to job and provide them positive environment of learning , growth and take pride in working in Hospitality industry. Let’s hope all stakeholders come out of their self interest and barriers and build such a positive and healthy learning and working environment .

When I launched my expat job search training program, my biggest fear was becoming just another empty online course — promising the world, but failing to deliver on real-life results. It’s happened to me so many times. I sign up for a course with high hopes, only to end up disappointed because the promised outcomes didn’t materalize. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗺𝗲 €𝟱,𝟴𝟬𝟬. The marketing was compelling, but the reality was a struggle: • There’s a success coach, but they’re not proactive — you have to reach out constantly. • There’s a 100% money-back guarantee, but you need to prove you completed the 100+ tasks they ask you to do, many of them useless. • They don’t tailor the theory to real life — it’s just a flood of information. If you’re not able to implement it in your life, it’s your fault. That’s why I’m committed to ensuring my program isn’t just another failed experience for my customers. For my first nine customers, my goal is a 100% success rate. Over time, my aim is to maintain a high success rate of 2 out of every 3 customers, taking into consideration there are many factors outside my control (life stages, shifting priorities, etc.). 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗔𝗿𝗲 𝟯 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀 𝗜’𝗺 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗠𝗮𝘅𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘇𝗲 𝗖𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝟭 𝗖𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 I track key metrics to make sure I’m staying on top of their progress: • Networking meetings, warm applications, and interviews completed • Weekly satisfaction and confidence levels (rated 1-5) • Job secured (Yes/No) 𝟮 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗧𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗴𝗲𝗿𝘀 I monitor for 7 warning signs that someone might be struggling, which include a mix of engagement, satisfaction, and outcomes: • 𝗠𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗽 𝗦𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: If a customer misses two or more sessions without prior notice, I check in. • 𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘀𝗳𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘀: If a customer’s weekly satisfaction drops to 3 or below, I intervene. • 𝗡𝗼 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄𝘀 𝗔𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝟲 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸𝘀: If a customer hasn’t landed an interview by halfway through the program, we dig deeper to adjust strategies. 𝟯 𝗨𝗻𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗔𝗱-𝗛𝗼𝗰 𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 I know my program isn't perfect yet, so I solve this by offering unlimited ad-hoc meetings. Every customer is at a different stage in their job search, and these 1-on-1 meetings allow me to customize the program to their unique needs, dive into their challenges, and help them overcome them. My goal is to ensure each customer’s success, no matter how much time and effort it takes — at least in the beginning. While this approach doesn’t scale, it helps me refine the program so that, eventually, customers won’t need to reach out as much. ———————— I just received this message from one of my customers after yesterday's role-playing group call to convert conversations into career opportunities: Look ma — looks like it’s working 🥹

The Paradox of Hospitality: Trainees Driving Operations Without Job SecurityIn recent years, the hotel industry has increasingly relied on trainees and job interns to sustain daily operations. These young professionals bring fresh energy and ideas, yet there is a growing concern: while HR departments are eager to leverage their contributions, they are often reluctant to offer them permanent positions. The paradox is glaring. Trainees are entrusted with critical tasks and responsibilities, yet when it comes to hiring, the same institutions demand years of experience that these trainees haven't had the opportunity to acquire due to lack of long-term employment opportunities. This practice not only undermines the morale of these aspiring hospitality professionals but also hampers the industry's growth. It's time for a shift in perspective. Hotels should recognize the value of their trainees by providing clear pathways to employment, ensuring that experience is built from within rather than sought externally.
