The Later Stage Innovation (LSI) project HyPPr ended in mid-2023. This Flanders Industry Innovation Moonshot project in the program ’Energy Innovation’ was followed by the creation of the technology startup Solhyd, which seeks social impact with a widely deployable hydrogen panel. At the heart of Solhyd, there is an incredibly innovative technology that produces hydrogen from ambient air and sunlight. As hydrogen gas will play an increasingly important role in the energy landscape, hydrogen panels could serve us all well. In this interview, CEO Jan Rongé talks about their challenges today and the role Flanders Industry Innovation Moonshot played. https://lnkd.in/emmkNmbw #hydrogen #energyinnovation #technology #startup #energytransition

Bill Gates’s Breakthrough Energy has awarded a $40 million grant to Deep Sky, a Canadian startup developing the "Alpha" testing ground in Alberta to accelerate the deployment of direct air capture technologies. 👋 The facility, set to launch next spring, will host up to eight companies, including Airhive and Mission Zero, to refine their carbon removal systems. Deep Sky is simultaneously advancing multiple development stages to speed up commercial-scale deployment. 🗣️ Deep Sky CEO Damien Steel highlighted the project’s sense of urgency: “We don’t have the time. The reason [steps are] done in a sequential order is because nobody ever wants to take on any risk,” he said. Deep Sky is pursuing multiple development processes simultaneously to accelerate progress. https://lnkd.in/e64eRpXj #Carbon #ClimateInsider #BillGates #StartUp

Finnish climatetech company secures €44M to scale low-carbon hydrogen technology Kokkola-based Hycamite has secured €44 million in Series A funding to scale its methane-splitting technology, which generates low-carbon hydrogen and solid carbon for industrial use. The funding, completed in two stages, will enable the launch of an industrial-scale demonstration unit in Kokkola, Finland. The investment round was led by Sojitz Corporation, with contributions from existing backers Holdix Oy, Turret Oy, and Stephen Industries Oy, as well as new investors OMV Petrom and MOL PLUS. Hycamite’s technology, based on thermo-catalytic decomposition, uses significantly less energy than traditional hydrogen production methods and produces carbon suitable for applications like batteries and filtration systems. The funds will primarily be used to transition the technology to industrial scale and explore commercial applications. https://lnkd.in/dwerGEdP #nordicmade #finland #funding #startups #climatetech #cleantech #hydrogen #startups #trending
