Two decades fly by in a blink when shared with the right people. Recently, I had the honor of celebrating a 20 year work anniversary with a colleague who had been a cornerstone of our team. It's moments like these that remind us of the immense value in building strong, lasting relationships at work. The bonds we've crafted over these years have weathered challenges and celebrated victories. Here’s what I've learned from two decades alongside incredible people: → Shared purpose is powerful. When everyone rallies around a common goal, it transforms daily tasks into meaningful pursuits. → Trust is the glue. It's the foundation that holds us together through tough times and amplifies our triumphs. → Celebrate every win. Big or small, victories keep us motivated and remind us why we started this journey together. → Empathy elevates. Understanding and supporting each other’s unique strengths fosters a thriving environment. Reflecting on two decades, it’s clear that the people around us make the journey worthwhile. You've got 7 wonders of the world. 7 deadly sins. And me, celebrating 7 years with Luminous PR! Shocker – here are 7 things that might have surprised me along my journey...   1. 🙏 I was finally able to let down my walls to show my true vulnerable self. And the sky didn’t fall in, ‘Chicken Licken’. Picking the right time and right people is key to getting this right. I have never in my working life formed such a safe, trusting and respectful bond as I have with my partner in crime Kirsty Jarvis. She sits at the top of my gratitude list each and every day.   2. 😡 I have zero tolerance (maybe a bit of rage too) for Microsoft Teams. Gives me a twitch just thinking about it.   3. ✍ Communications folk are fecking smart and fearless and persistent AF. We take the most complex tech solution, digest it, chew it up and spit it out into accessible stories, getting them in front of the right people to help you achieve your goals. No tech is too tough for the Luminous crew to chew. Even me - that's a surprise too;) Though our head of editorial Jennifer Hood is the master!   4. 🍑 I get really grumpy if I don’t shift my butt during the work day - concentration levels, productivity, happiness, all down the plug hole. Yahdy yahdy yah - we’ve all heard it, prioritising your health makes a difference. Shouldn’t be a surprise. But when you finally ‘get it’ it’s like a slap in the face with an ice cold squid 🦑   5. 😞 This is a sad one… There’s way too many sub-standard PRs out there nowadays who have burned both clients and journalists alike. It makes everyone cautious, to the point that clients sometimes miss out on the real benefits PR can help them achieve. Not saying we're better than the rest, there’s always room for growth. - But we do work to standards and with integrity, transparency and honesty. - We do adhere to comms rules. - And we do deliver on our promise.   6. ⭐ Performing at the top of your game while going through perimenopause is really shit. And it’s not talked about enough. I’ve mentioned brain fog before on here. It’s real. It’s debilitating. And we don’t take a single day off, just ‘plough through’. Enough. Flexible working policies should allow you time and space to be both an outstanding player and a woman who is navigating change. 💪 Kudos to us at Luminous for taking flexibility seriously.   7. 😻 Tech Clients - with all your crazy, quirky, idiosyncratic ways and ideas - might drive us secretly round the twist, but boy, we LOVE it and you make it all worthwhile. Each and every client that comes to us comes armed with an idea, a story, passion, a promise of making positive differences. We are lucky to be invited along for part of the journey. Today marks my 6th anniversary at OneGoal, and I can’t help but feel overwhelmed with gratitude and joy. It’s been an incredible journey, and to celebrate, I want to share three reflections that have shaped my time here: 1. Self-care is everything. In a mission-driven space like ours, it’s easy to pour endlessly into the work. But I’ve learned that I can only bring my best self to this team and our students because we truly value each other here. People matter, and that makes all the difference. 2. Diverse experiences lead to lasting impact. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of contributing to 4 out of the 5 functional teams in our region. Each role brought its own set of challenges and growth, but it’s in these varied experiences that I’ve been able to shape our systems and help drive our program’s success. I’ve seen firsthand how every perspective strengthens us. 3. Lead with, not above. As a leader, I’ve learned the importance of doing the work alongside my team. Growth doesn’t happen in isolation, and I’ve continued to develop not only as a professional but also as a partner to those around me. It’s the relationships we build that make the work meaningful. Here’s to many more years, even greater impact in NYC, and continuing to grow with each of you by my side.

Today marks my 6 year work anniversary at HoneyBar Products International Inc. Reflecting back on all that I have learned from past and current owners throughout this time, I can say that the mentorship has been invaluable. 6 reflection points: 1)  Having friends in the industry to connect with on anything and everything is essential 2) Pride in growing brands as a co-packer, even though I must act as a silent cheerleader in the background 3) The understanding that having worked in the retail, distribution and manufacturing sectors provides me with different insights than others 4) Relationships- I truly believe helping others results in good coming back my way 5) How to examine packaging- I now can’t pick up anything without examining the packaging from a marketing angle, stability, materials etc. 6) Machinery- I never thought I would have interest, but now think of what machines might work for which application Thanks to all who have assisted in my growth!
