Smart goes electric with CPL
UK-based truck mounted access platform specialist Smart Platform Rental has added its first fully electric van mounted model to its fleet, along with other units from CPL. The company has invested in the CPL E-Tech KL26 and KL21b models.
The E-Tech KL26 is a fully electric van-mounted platform. With a range of 110 miles, the KL26 is a London emission zone ULEZ-compliant eco-friendly platform mounted on a 3.5-tonne Renault Master chassis.
The unit has a working height of 11.8m and a maximum outreach of 6.5m, with one operator in the basket. A specific feature is that it has no outriggers. Smart Platform Rental has also added six new diesel CPL KL21b units. The KL21b is mounted on a 3-tonne Renault Trafic chassis.
It too has no outriggers, which decreases its footprint, making it more effective in narrow spaces, and decreases its weight, giving it a greater payload for tools and equipment. The KL21b has a maximum working height of 11.2m with 6m of outreach.
Smart Platforms’ Managing Director Jo Rogers said, “Smart platforms have always been and will remain committed to continuous improvement in all areas of our business, these two new van mount models are just the latest additions to our self-drive rental fleet, in line with that core principle.”
The all-electric E-Tech KL26 will initially be based in Smart Platform’s Birmingham depot, while the KL21b units will be spread across locations in Hemel Hempstead, Birmingham, Manchester, Sheffield, Dartford, Bristol and Southampton. Paul Murphy, CEO of CPL, which is part of the Klubb Group, added, “The KL21b was developed alongside Smart Platforms. They needed to offer a solution that fitted within the customer budget but didn’t sacrificed efficiency. I would like to say thank you to Smart Platforms for their trust.”
