Today, we’re proud to be hosting an women in sports networking event at our Bankside office, in collaboration with the Fearless Women’s, Women’s Sports Collective. Together, we’ll be joined by women from a wide variety of positions across the UK sporting industry. This event gives us the opportunity to meet new faces and spark new connections with other like-minded women from the sports world. We’ll also be hearing from some our own team on their paths into the sporting world, and all about their passions for furthering female voices within the industry. We look forward to welcoming everyone attending this afternoon’s event and can’t wait to hear your stories! Huge thanks in advance to Kate Hannon and Sue Anstiss MBE for working with us to bring this event to life.

When we started RS/FNL we made the conscious of putting women at the front of our community. Not just on marketing or around IWD, but actually genuinely. The leadership team who run the entire UK community are 66% female, we have 12 female founders of our 17 communities, over 50% of our 167 person crew is female. This reflects in our attendees with 62% of people who come to our FNL events are female, and a whopping 67% of content engagement is with females (1.1m per month!). We don’t shout about it nor do we actively promote this due to being worried of ‘women washing’. We didn’t celebrate International Women’s Day or do anything around having a ‘female led run’ as literally every single day our thousands of members are led by our female leaders. We just keep it quiet and usually sit on these types of things. This is what makes us different. However the reason for sharing is that doing the right thing pays off. We received a message from Chelsea FC Women, one of the leading female sports teams on the planet, saying that they have seen our community and love our audience and what we have built and that they’d like to collaborate on an event. For our dinky little brand to be on a series of collab’d posts going out to 4m people on Chelsea’s IG, and to see our Canva made logo along the Cheslea FC badge on an event poster is properly silly. And this isn’t just some willy-nilly, throw away end of season game. We are working with Chelsea Women for the 2nd leg of their Champions League Semi-Final draw with Barcelona Femini at Stamford Bridge. We will be joined by some current and ex England and Cheslea stars for our little 5k along the river before we take our people to the game on the Saturday. Friday night at London Bridge. Saturday night at Stamford Bridge. I can’t take any credit for this. It’s down to the big contributors in our group and leadership team who often tell me I’m wrong in my decisions, who have taken the scraps of what we managed to pull together over the last 2 years and have managed to improve and build upon them to make them into something I could only ever dream of. C’mon Chels!!

Today, we celebrate International Women’s Sport Day, a day to honor the achievements of women in sports and reflect on the steps we need to take to ensure inclusivity and equity in the industry. 🎊 Sports thrive on diversity. Yet, when leadership in sports organizations remains predominantly single-gendered and lacks representation from diverse backgrounds, we fail to address the needs of the broader sports community. Diverse leadership is essential to fostering innovation, addressing inequities, and ensuring that the voices of all athletes and stakeholders are heard. From the grassroots to the global stage, women have proven their strength, resilience, and ability to inspire change. However, the pursuit of true equality is far from over. We need more women in leadership positions, not as a token presence, but as decision-makers shaping the future of sports. If we want the sports industry to evolve and truly reflect the communities it serves, we must champion inclusivity at all levels, on and off the field. Let’s break down the barriers that limit progress and ensure that sports remain an impactful platform for empowerment and growth for everyone. Together, we can create a sporting world that is inclusive, equitable, and representative. 🥇 💪 #InternationalWomensSportDay #DiversityInSports #Inclusion #LeadershipInSports

WEEKEND READ: "Why women's sports must strive for better than equality" by Lindsay Gibbs at Power Plays is expands on the unique opportunity women's sports have right now to create a blueprint for inclusion, safety, and fan appreciation. "This toxicity, exploitation, and incompetence is often justified by pointing to similar environments and norms men’s sports. But while it’s fine to use men’s sports as a blueprint, customizations should be encouraged. As women’s sports build, the leaders have a CHOICE about what kind of leagues they want to build and what king of fanbases and sponsorships they want to cultivate." https://lnkd.in/eVHfG8ui Subscribe to Power Plays for thoughtful analysis of women's sports — and how we talk about them.

In a significant move, the U.S. House of Representatives this week passed the "Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act," aiming to restrict biological males who identify as female from participating in female sports categories. The bill’s sponsor, Rep. Greg Steube, argued for its necessity, saying, “There are young girls across this country who have worked their entire lives to achieve their dream of competing in women’s sports, only to find that dream being crushed by biological males competing against them.” This sentiment resonates with countless Australians concerned about the fairness and safety of our own women’s sports. In contrast, Australian sports authorities have adopted guidelines promoting the inclusion of transgender and gender-diverse athletes in elite sports, despite the obvious unfairness to girls and women. The Family First Party firmly believes that women's sports should remain a fair arena where female athletes can compete on an equal footing. We advocate for policies that protect the integrity of women's sports by ensuring that only biological females participate in female categories. This stance is not about exclusion but about preserving the opportunities and rights of women and girls in sports. As Australia approaches the upcoming elections, it's imperative to question why our politicians are not taking decisive action to safeguard women's sports. If American lawmakers can implement measures to protect female athletes, why can't Australian leaders do the same? Family First's candidates are committed to championing the sex-based rights of women and girls. We pledge to advocate for policies that ensure fair competition, protect the safety of female athletes, and uphold the integrity of women's sports.
