Interesting question for discussion, but is the current breakdown of #mediausage still acceptable? We pose the argument that perhaps NOT, and could be misleading #mediaplanners into false priorities. Is it time to rethink how media consumption is measured and reported? Our concern is primarily due to the mixing of devices vs channels. #Mobile and #Desktop are devices, while #social or #podcasts are channels that can be engaged with on either device. Audiences stream video on mobile as well as smart TVs, and gaming can be across a number of devices as well. We believe there should be greater distinction between device consumption and #content consumption. With content being as fragmented as it is, this can have a great impact on how #mediaplanners build strategy and tactics. Understanding the devices being used and when are critical not only for media buying but creative insights as well. Understanding the environment and screens that messages are being delivered hopefully (from a media teams perspective) sway creative development.
