The February 2024 employment report reveals steady growth, with the addition of 900 jobs. This positive trend sets a promising tone for the year ahead. Kudos to CBIA president and CEO Chris DiPentima for highlighting the increase in Connecticut's labor force by 4,000 in February and 20,000 year-over-year. However, it's important to note that while there are 90,000 job openings, approximately 86,000 people are still seeking employment. This calls for collaborative efforts to ensure that everyone seeking a second chance can benefit from this momentum. It's heartening to witness more individuals participating in the labor market, but we must collectively work on skills-based workforce development initiatives to bridge the gap between job seekers and available opportunities. The Hudson Valley region's private sector job count experienced significant growth, reaching 822,300 in the year ending September 2024. Key sectors driving this expansion included private education, health services, other services, financial activities, leisure and hospitality, and manufacturing. Conversely, job losses were observed in mining, logging and construction, professional and business services, trade, transportation and utilities, and information. In September 2024, the region achieved a record-high private sector job count, showcasing a positive employment trend. Five out of nine sectors added jobs over the year. Private education and health services emerged as the top job generator, marking a 4.7 percent increase to 227,900 jobs—its highest September employment count on record. The growth was not restricted to a single area, with Sullivan County leading the way with a 6.0 percent increase in year-over-year job gains. Job growth continues to bolster our economy, keeping rates elevated. February data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) report, marked the 38th consecutive month of job growth—a streak that stands as the fifth-longest period of employment expansion on record. Moreover, it marked the 25th consecutive month with unemployment below 4%, the longest stretch in over 50 years. According to the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment, Colorado experienced greater job growth in 2023 than initially reported, adding 57,900 jobs throughout the year—up from the previously reported 24,100. #DMARstats Full monthly report available for DMAR members at member.dmarealtors.com.

Delaware's seasonally adjusted job openings declined by 1,000 over-the-month to 29,000 in June. Unemployed workers increased in June to 20,200 resulting in 8,800 more job openings than workers seeking jobs. The ratio of job openings to unemployed workers declined for most regional states in June, except Pennsylvania, whose ratio of 1.4 tied Delaware, but remain unchanged from the prior month. Maryland's ratio of 1.8 was the region's highest, while New Jersey had the region's lowest ratio of 1.0. The US ratio of job seekers to unemployed workers was unchanged from the month prior at 1.2. Delaware's total number of job openings increased by 5,000 over-the-month to 29,000, the highest level since May when openings reached 30,000. October's number of unemployed workers totaled 20,200, resulting in 8,800 more jobs available than unemployed workers to fill them, the first gain in the number of unemployed workers versus job openings in five months. In comparing neighboring states' ratios of unemployed workers to job openings, both Delaware and Maryland had over-the-month increases. Delaware's ratio grew by three-tenths from 1.1 to 1.4 while Maryland's ratio grew by two-tenths from 1.5 to 1.7. Pennsylvania had the only decline in its ratio among regional states, falling from 1.3 to 1.1 over the prior month. New Jersey and the national unemployed worker to job openings ratios remained unchanged at 0.9 and 1.1, respectively.
