Finally,it's over   Yea, my break is over after 6 months.    I need to take a six-month maternity break.   Now, you must be wondering. I work from home, so why is it necessary to take a break?   It's necessary to take a maternity break even if we are working from home because   -We have mood swings. -We need to give full attention to infants. -I have gone through lots of ups and downs in these 6 months because I lost my one child. -Many times, we have to go to the hospital. -There is a lot of anxiety and confusion.   I hope you find this relatable. I've been back from maternity leave for one whole year today. It's my anniversary of becoming a working parent and what have I learnt? 😴 Your body can survive on less sleep than you think. 🔑 A good routine is key to feeling like you have it all together. 🌊 However, mornings can take a direction of their own and you just have to ride with it. 🤒 It's possible to be in atleast one of these states at any given time; coming down with something, being poorly or getting over something. 👶 Watching your baby grow and develop into their own little character is one of the best feelings ever. 💸 The sheer cost of under 5's childcare and the hoops you have to jump through to get any sort of help (for parents and nurseries!). 🌲 Getting out into nature together is food for the soul. ⏲ Learning how to fit your work into a condensed space of time. Finishing work on time has been a huge learning curve that I've not yet cracked! ☕ Coffee. That's all. I may not feel that I 'have it all', I don't even know if that's achievable, but our balance means that I get the most of every little corner of life. Maternity leave, when did you take it? I’m officially on my third trimester😱 no idea where time has gone. And now I need to start considering when maternity leave starts but being a small business owner means I’m scared. I’m scared of: -Taking it and stop working. -Of clients leaving. -Of not getting enough clients. -Of sinking the company. -Etc But I know I need this time for me and the baby so we can come back stronger. MATERNITY LEAVE Such a happy time, but so many mums have that dread of having at some point to leave their precious baby & go back to work. Handing them over to someone else every morning, maybe missing out on those precious firsts, certainly missing out on valuable time, because, let's face it, kids grow up so quickly.. We say it so much, but it's so true. What if it didn't have to be that way? Why not build up a business around nap time & feeds so that you can either go back to part time work or not have to go back at all. Its exactly what I did!!!! And what so many other lovely mums I work alongside have done. Lis has just become a new mum & it has totally changed her perception of work & life. She really doesn't want to go back to work & is using all her free time in between being a mummy to make sure that happens.. When the Why is Strong,You Really Can Achieve Everything You Want.. Kid number two maternity and paternity leave looks like: -Recovery from unexpected C-Section -Dad has to juggle kid #1 with kid #2 because mom can’t lift or move -Mom is exhausted and frustrated she can’t bond with new baby as caretaker because she’s in pain -Dad had dreams of playing an occasional round of golf or gettin some down time in before he goes back to work but is holding down childcare and caring for his wife and doesn’t have capacity for anything more -Mom feels like a burden -Kid #1 gets sick at play group. Whole family gets sick, including the nanny. -Dad is feeling resentful. Mom is feeling resentful. With exciting decision to expand family also comes hard times. Baby smiles at mom and dad (or was it just dirty diaper?) and for a split second, mom and dad unite and all in the world felt okay. It’s time to go back to work. Boss: “Welcome back. Hope you feel rested and had a nice break while on maternity/paternity leave. We got a lot to tackle this quarter.” Just a PSA to all the managers and coworkers out there, sometimes your employees are just trying to keep it together.
