On the back of our previous article highlighting the benefits that renewable energy projects can bring to Landowners (https://lnkd.in/e_3QsE7c), it is great to see some of these in action through one of Innova recent co-located solar and battery projects. #innova #renewableenergy
Many landowners are currently seeking additional ways to earn from their land, in light of rising costs and lower agricultural output. In this case study, Michael Allworth explores how Innova worked with two landowners in Staffordshire to develop a solar farm that will: ☀️generate a steady, long-term income for the landowners 🌱make a significant Biodiversity Net Gain contribution 🌳positively impact the local community Read the case study here to find out more: https://lnkd.in/eUCsDM39 #innova #renewableenergy #thesmartfutureofgreenenergy

Good news on agricultural farmland area V solar utility farm area: ANU's Professor Andrew Blakers writes: "I’ve done the sums. All we need is 1,200 square kilometres. That’s not much. The area devoted to agriculture is about 3,500 times larger at 4.2 million square kilometres. The area of land that would be taken away from agriculture works out at about 45 square metres per person – about the size of a large living room. We can ditch fossil fuels and reduce greenhouse emissions with negligible impact on agriculture. And in many cases, farmers can be paid for hosting renewable energy infrastructure while continuing to run sheep and cows or grow crops.
No threat to farm land: just 1,200 square kilometres can fulfil Australia’s solar and wind energy needs

The 300 MW Cambridge solar and battery project in Queensland, featuring agrivoltaics, has received environmental approval, paving the way for an innovative approach to renewable energy. By planting native grasses and introducing grazing animals, the project aims to boost biodiversity, reduce irrigation needs, and limit chemical use. Part of a larger $1.7 billion plan, it will help create a renewable energy hub in Queensland’s Renewable Energy Zone. Construction is set to begin in late 2025, with commissioning expected by late 2026. Farm to table! The synergy between agriculture and clean energy industries is growing rapidly. As of this month, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory has identified 566 agrivoltaic projects across the United States, collectively generating over 10 gigawatts of renewable energy. These projects are transforming how we use land by placing solar arrays above crops, grazing pastures, or pollinator habitats, thereby optimizing land use. An additional pro of agrivoltaic projects that has yet to be fully explored is resolving land-use conflicts by sharing space between solar arrays and agricultural production. We don't have to pick between crops or power, do both. #CleanEnergy #SolarEnergy #Agriculture #Agrivoltaic

I am unable to verify the claims made in this article. Still, I must admit that, if only remotely accurate, the author raises valid concerns about misallocating #subsidies and #farmlandwaste. Omitted is the possibility of a simple fix. The #IRA could be amended with provisions that make #taxcredits conditional to introducing sustainable #AgriPV solutions, i.e., the combination of #PV installations and #agriculturalproduction on the same lot. Under specific circumstances, Agri-PV can help farmers cope with the impacts of #climatechange on their production. Such installations can provide the shade needed to conserve water and to create favorable microclimates for better agricultural yields under more harsh climatic conditions, while helping to meet exponentially growing #renewableenergy demand to achieve #netzerocarbon goals. Where are the Agri-PV champions who advocate the required IRA revisions?

As the government moves forward with the Laguna de Bay project, the voices of those like Alcones and Arambulo highlight the need for careful consideration of the human and environmental impacts of renewable energy developments. While the transition to renewable energy is critical, it must be achieved in a way that does not compromise the livelihoods of those who depend on the land and water for their survival. #SolarFarms #Philippines #LagunadeBay https://lnkd.in/gxvEgHiw
