As technology becomes crucial for Sunday worship, smaller churches often struggle with limited resources, budget, and training. The Florida Conference is addressing this through the Equipping Leaders For Ministry (ELM) program, funded by a $1 million Lilly Foundation grant. ELM supports Florida Conference churches with under 150 members, offering resources and training to foster growth and sustainability. Learn how ELM is transforming small church communities. We explored why some cities struggle while others thrive in reducing community violence. Engaging with experts and practitioners across national, state, and local levels, we unearthed six key capacities outlined in our latest Whitepaper. Beyond theoretical models, these principles are pivotal in enabling cities to reduce violence. Read more in the link below! Once you see these capacities, you won't be able to unsee them in your projects. #CommunitySafety #CVI #ViolenceReduction #SafeCities #UrbanSafetyInnovation #Whitepaper
Despite historic public and private investments in the growing field of evidence-based methods, relatively few cities have reduced community violence at the city level and sustained those reductions across leadership transitions. With support from The Pew Charitable Trusts and in partnership with field experts, California Partnership for Safe Communities (CPSC) began working in 2022 to identify the “key capacities” associated with the ability of cities to achieve and sustain reductions in community violence. The findings have significant implications for public policy and how we take on violence in cities. Multi-year funding is key for small charities, it allows for strategising and stability to do the long term thinking #multiyearfunding
Grant-making contacts - do take a look at this research from Institute For Voluntary Action Research on the value of multi-year funding. The findings (that multi-year funding builds trust, provides stability, aids forwards planning, and supports learning and improvements in practice) chime closely with our own experiences at Berkeley Foundation with longer term funding partnerships of 3 years+

Multi year funding is so important for the sustainability of the sector, it provides security and enables charities to focus on what they do best. Making the same organisations submit so many applications for small amounts of short term funding is not going to achieve the impact or systemic social change required. I also would like to see funders push beyond 3 yr funding cycles and consider 5 or more as a norm.

Kudos to Lisa Robinson, field specialist in regional economic development, for hosting a successful Regional Economic Development Summit in Mt. Vernon last week. The program, 'Improving the Economic Well-being of Your Citizens,' brought together city and county representatives, non-profit organizations, civic leaders, business owners, and individuals. Attendees explored tools and resources to help them achieve targeted goals for their communities. This is how we serve Missouri and deliver Mizzou! It's finally Conference Girl Summer! Kicking off summer conference season with The National Energy and Utility Affordability Coalition (NEUAC) in the best city :) If you're attending, please join me on Thursday morning for "Putting the Knowledge in Technology," a session exploring how members are using data and technology to improve service and access to assistance for limited income households, and what more we could do if we worked together. You can weigh in on whether NEUAC should stand up a data and technology working group! On Friday, dreams come true, I'll be moderating a panel called, "Improv and Advocacy." YES, AND, it's sold out. This conference is so much fun and each year I learn so much. If it wasn't on your calendar this year, add it for 2025. https://lnkd.in/gzPzhzp2

Housing is a right.
The prison-to-homelessness pipeline is a national problem, but we know our community has the solutions. As of today, organizations across the country can apply for up to $140,000 in funding along with training and technical assistance to refine or scale their reentry housing programs through our newest initiative, the National Housing Incubator. Learn more and submit your proposal today at https://lnkd.in/guut4Ka8!

When flipping through MCF publications, you may have noticed a white and blue seal that reads “Accredited Community Foundation. ” MCF has received national accreditation from the Council on Foundations for 22 years. But what is national accreditation and why does it matter? The National Standards provide vital guidance on how community foundations operate, distribute funds and determine impact on the communities they serve. Learn more about National Standards and the accreditation process in our latest blog post: https://buff.ly/3INMlYD
