Day 93 of #100DaysOfCode 🚀 Today, I took Arees to new heights by integrating it with the Expo Application Service! Here's a glimpse of my progress: ✅ Configured the application for seamless builds. 🛠️ Rebuilt Prisma types using TypeScript to ensure compatibility. 🔧 Addressed issues with accessing environment variables from .env files during build by incorporating them directly into the app as strings. 📱 Successfully built the Android version and tested it on my device, experiencing smooth functionality. What a week! I had the opportunity to attend Fluttercon in New York. After years of working within the Flutter community, it was such a fun and rewarding experience to engage with the community in person. Big thanks to the speakers and Flutter community leaders! My key takeaways: 1. Flutter isn’t just cross-platform, it’s multi-platform. We are just scratching the surface of the use cases that can be addressed by this amazing framework. 2. There’s room for everybody. Whether you’re an engineer, a non-technical founder, a nonprofit, etc. The dev and deployment experience for Flutter apps has benefits for all involved. 3. There’s a lot of work to do. Flutter has proven itself as an amazing tool — adoption has grown within companies such as Google, Geico, Ford, LG, and many others. There’s been even more rapid adoption and contribution for companies outside the US. It’s time for businesses, communities, and education leaders to take advantage of these advances to drive more value for the average person. 4. As for myself: I will continue to collaborate with others and grow with the framework. I plan to contribute to Very Good Ventures’s Commercial Roadmap for Flutter by creating an open source curriculum/education roadmap. I’d like to leverage my experience teaching computer science at nonprofits to create easy to follow programs that are open for use by any educators and knowledge seekers. 🚀 Built a Production-Ready Mobile Application in 24 Hours! 🚀 I recently participated in the HackDavis 2024 Hackathon at University of California, Davis. During this 24-hour hackathon, my team and I tackled the NPO Davis Community Meals & Housing (DCMH) problem to streamline their inventory and donors donation flow to NPO. A crucial feature requested by the DCMH representative was the ability to notify donors about out-of-stock or low-stock items. To address this, we developed a cross-platform mobile app using React Native with TypeScript. Expo simplified our build process and enhanced our developer experience with React Native. Given the time constraints, we opted for Supabase as our Backend as a Service, which saved us from building the backend from scratch. The most challenging part was integrating push notifications on multi platforms and multi-role level access in a single app without a dedicated backend application. We solved it by registering device with expo-notifications and storing expo generated token within supabase.
