To say Airbus Corporate Jets is a pedigree among the VVIP aircraft landscape is an understatement. And at the heart of the program is its internal design studio - headed up by a remarkable talent, 𝐌𝐫. 𝐒𝐲𝐥𝐯𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐭 There isn't a person reading this who isn't familiar with AIRBUS and their ACJ (Airbus Corporate Jets) division. The name is ubiquitous and stands as the European counterpart to BBJ (Boeing Business Jets). When it comes to VVIP transport category private jets, these two brands own the market. But all customized private bizliners are not created equal. Up until BBJ announced its Boeing Select program last year, ACJ had long distinguished itself by being the only OEM that supported its customers with high-level in-house design and completion coordination. It's true that both OEM giants now offer a similar one-stop, internalized option for their customers - but in the world of large aircraft design and completions, longevity translates to experience. And since ACJ has been at it since 1997, that's a lot of amassed experience and wherewithal.  In our upcoming cover story, 𝐌𝐫. A big and blustering chap Mr. Mallah may be, he is also very much spot on with his assessment of how to own and operate a private aircraft with partners, through ownership or a lease. Owning, or leasing an airplane in conjunction with partners is a great way to have your cake and eat it. Ownership costs are spread over the partners, and if you are smart enough to bring on some highly skilled contract pilots, your ongoing costs are extremely reasonable. What I really love about this short video is the aircraft they have chosen. Again, spot on. The Astra SPX/G100 is exceptional bang for your buck as it has performance to spare, and can be acquired for a very reasonable, in private jet terms, price. Great range, a high cabin for it's class, fast cruise speed and the ability to operate into many airfields make this aircraft perfect for the mission when it comes to getting the owners where they want to be, quickly. Assisting with acquisition and crewing is what we do. A friend of mine is so afraid of flying that she needs 3 x Gin & Tonic before stepping onboard any type of aircraft. After reading this very well researched book about #Boeing and how an in many ways successful merger between #Boeing and #McDonnellDouglas introduced a radical change in company culture I wonder if she would need to increase her alcohol consumption before her next flight.   The quality issues seem to persist with newer versions of #Boeing aircrafts (notably the 737-MAX versions) and the coziness between a regulatory body and a manufacturer in any industry is never a good sign.   If you are interested in reading about the clash of two very different corporate cultures or wonder why #Boeing has ended up in their current situation I highly recommend reading this book.   If you are already afraid of flying you probably shouldn’t…     #Flyingblind #PeterRobinson #Airbus

For the money, one of the best aircraft acquisitions can be found in the Gulfstream 100/Astra SPX, and one of the real benefits is the ability to easily upgrade the avionics, bringing it up to the super modern standard with drop in Thomas Global TFD-4100, and if desired an upgrade from the original Universal UNS-1C to the latest UNS-1Ew. I highly recommend at least the TFD-4100, as the original Proline EFIS are losing support, and screen failures with the old CRT displays is something I am wary of. The upgrades to the FMC from Universal are many, and more than just desirable, so for modernisation and longevity, ensuring your aircraft has both upgrades is something I recommend. With ample thrust and leading edge devices, the aircraft has outstanding performance, with the ability to cruise at over mach .80. Long range fuel, though reducing available baggage area, brings the range up to circa 3000nm, so for a New Zealand or East Coast Australian departure base, reaching anywhere in the S Pacific is easily achieved. That means that Bali or Nadi are reachable from Sydney, or Rarotonga, Cairns and Tahiti from Auckland. The cabin is roomy, has a tall ceiling for an aircraft in it's class, and very comfortable for six, passengers (it will take seven to eight, however most owners prefer to limit passengers to ensure comfort), and the aircraft has a reasonable lav with a sink... a must on any stage length over 2 hours. My favorite configuration has the forward three place divan, which is perfect for an extra bit of relaxation. A number of available aircraft have had recent, and frankly gorgeous interior refits. Some are available with one or both of the aforementioned avionics upgrades, and a good aircraft can be had for the mid $2.5 million mark, leaving room for the upgrade of choice. And, you can say that you own a Gulfstream, so that's a nice bit of ramp cred! If you are looking to step into the world of private jets, you can not go wrong with the Astra/G100.
