🔲 #GUARDRAIL #CRASH #TESTS WITH #RIVIAN AND #TESLA PROVIDES NEW INSIGHTS: Crash tests performed on guardrails, highlighted concerns. At 60 mph, the 7,000-plus-pound, Rivian R1T truck tore through the barrier, with little reduction in speed. In a separate test, a Tesla Model 3 sedan lifted the guardrail and passed below it, coming to rest behind the barrier. Additional crash tests are planned. 🔲 The Midwest Roadside Safety Facility at the US University of Nebraska–Lincoln recently conducted a first-of-its-kind crash test of an EV pickup truck to understand better whether currently used guardrails and US military protection measures against hostile vehicles are prepared for the growing number of EVs. Thousands of fatalities result each year from more than 100,000 run-off-road crashes involving traffic infrastructure such as roadside barriers. 🔲 There is some urgency to address this issue. As the percentage of EVs on the road increases, the proportion of run-off-road crashes involving EVs will increase, as well. - Cody Stolle, assistant director of the Midwest Roadside Safety Facility. 🔲 Earlier, the MGS has been tested with small cars that weigh up to 2,400 pounds and pickups that weigh 5,000 pounds (combustions). 🚨 TfL Extends DVS Grace Period 🚨 Transport for London (TfL) has extended the grace period for Direct Vision Standard (DVS) compliance from three to six months. The DVS, introduced in 2019 and enforced from March 2021, is designed to improve visibility for drivers of heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) over 12 tonnes, aiming to reduce collision risks. From October 28, all HGVs entering Greater London must have a three-star safety rating. Vehicles not meeting this standard will need to install the Progressive Safe System (PSS) to obtain a TfL permit. To take advantage of the extended grace period, you'll need to prove that PSS installation is scheduled for after October 28. Enforcement will now start on May 4, 2025, giving you additional time to meet the requirements. 🔧 Ensure compliance by booking your PSS installation before the October deadline—installation is available up until May 4, 2025!
