🌌 Quantum Technology for Space Security: IT Leads NATO-Funded QSCAN Project 🚀  QSCAN: Quantum-Enabled Secure Multiparty Computation for Space Surveillance Tracking is a groundbreaking project led by the Instituto de Telecomunicações (IT) and funded by NATO’s Science for Peace and Security (SPS) program.  Under the leadership of Armando Nolasco Pinto, IT researcher and Professor at the Universidade de Aveiro, #QSCAN is set to revolutionize space surveillance by leveraging quantum technology to enhance security in collision probability calculations.  🔑 What makes QSCAN unique?   🌐 Tackling privacy concerns, QSCAN is developing quantum-enabled secure multiparty computation protocols for conjunction analysis. Lot Fourteen-based QuantX Labs has just signed two contracts valued at over $2.7 million with the Australian Department of Defence for its cutting-edge optical atomic clocks. These advanced clocks provide ultra-precise timing, crucial for defence applications in GPS-degraded environments, supporting navigation systems for both Australian defence and AUKUS partners. With over seven years of R&D behind these clocks—developed from research at the University of Adelaide’s Institute for Photonics and Advanced Sensing (IPAS)—this milestone marks the second product QuantX has successfully translated out of IPAS. Last week our team leader Piotr Kolenderski participated in the European Conference on Quantum Technologies for Defence, organized by the European Commission (DG DEFIS), Polish Technological Platform on Photonics, OpTecBB, Alpha RLH, and Ukrainian Cluster Alliance. This in-person event, held within the framework of the European Network of Defence-related Regions, brought together industry leaders, research institutes, academia, governmental representatives, and armed forces. Key highlights included: - Exploring Quantum Warfare: discovering defence applications of quantum sensing, communication, and computation. - EU and National Activities: gaining insights into current and planned initiatives in the field. - Pitching New Ideas: showcasing innovative concepts and companies. The piece also dives into Cailabs’ deployment of off-the-shelf optical ground stations for several Government mission partners.
