Here’s why I believe every senior/staff engineer should help junior engineers. 👇 Starting a career in Hardware Design and Verification can be challenging. There’s so much to learn, from complex microarchitecture to understanding various terminologies and not to forget working with those shiny simulators. On top of this if junior engineers don’t feel comfortable then it would only make things hard for them to grow in this super exciting yet challenging field. Throughout my 9 years in hardware design and verification space, I’ve always made it a point to help junior engineers whenever possible, and I continue to do so at my current job as well. Helping them often becomes a learning experience for me especially when I sit down with them and work through the problems until we reach the final solution. I frequently discover things that weren’t obvious at first glance. Supporting juniors also builds trust allowing them to ask questions freely. Although I agree it can sometimes feel like a bit too much but it is easier to set boundaries or just provide quick pointers if you’re unable to help fully. Trust me those extra 30-45 minutes will pay off during performance reviews and annual cycles.
